Job Description

This role is responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based, and specialist psychological assessment and support for people dealing with cancer.

You will contribute professional expertise to Maggie’s multidisciplinary team (MDT) and the integrated programme of cancer support, aligned with Clinical and Counselling Psychology Role Expectation Guidelines. Additionally, you will support Maggie’s organisational psychosocial research and collaborate with the Centre Head to develop and promote support programmes. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychological leadership and ensure proper governance of psychological activities within the centre team.
  • Deliver specialist psychological assessments and interventions using various formats, including individual, couples, family, group work, support groups, and psycho-educational workshops.
  • Apply theoretical and evidence-based practices in programme delivery.
  • Record and report all relevant data related to your work.
  • Supervise centre staff on psychological aspects and facilitate staff support and supervision meetings.
  • Assist with training and development of staff and volunteers alongside the Centre Head.
  • Develop and maintain psychological best practices within the centre.
  • Develop and evaluate Maggie’s programmes at local and national levels in collaboration with the Centre Head.
  • Manage psychological risks within the centre.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Postgraduate doctoral training in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent for pre-1996 trained professionals) and eligible for BPS chartered status.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary care teams.
  • Skills in teaching, training, and consulting to professional and non-professional groups.
  • Knowledge of models of psychological wellness, health psychology, adjustment to illness, and quality of life, contrasting with a purely medical model.
  • Proven skills in research design, conduct, and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying complex and sensitive information to diverse audiences.
  • Project management and IT skills supporting qualitative and quantitative research.
