Job Description:
This role is responsible for the provision of a high quality, evidence-based and specialist programme of psychological assessment and support for people dealing with cancer.
You will contribute professional expertise to the Maggie’s MDT and integrated programme of cancer support for people living with the impact of cancer, aligned with the Clinical and Counselling Psychology Role Expectation Guidelines.
You will contribute to Maggie’s organisational programme of psychosocial research and work closely with the Centre Head to develop and promote the support programme.
Consideration will be given to part-time hours for this post.

Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for psychological leadership and the governance of psychological thinking, recording and activity within the centre team.
- Provide specialist psychological assessment and intervention for people living with the impact of cancer using various psychotherapeutic formats, including individual, couples, family, group work, support groups, networking groups, and psycho-educational formats such as workshops and lectures.
- Utilise theoretical and evidence-based practices in programme provision.
- Record and report all data related to your work.
- Supervise centre staff regarding psychological aspects of programme provision and facilitate staff support and supervision meetings.
- Work with the Centre Head on staff and volunteer training and development.
- Ensure the development and articulation of psychological best practices within the centre.
- Develop and evaluate Maggie’s programme quality in collaboration with the Centre Head at local and national levels.
- Manage psychological risk within the centre.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Postgraduate doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) and eligible for BPS chartered status.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary care team.
- Experience in teaching, training, and providing consultation to groups – professional or non-professional.
- Knowledge of models of psychological wellness, health psychology, adjustment to illness, and quality of life, contrasting with a medical model of illness.
- Proven skills in designing and conducting audits and research.
- Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex and sensitive information effectively to clients, families, carers, and professionals.
- Project management and IT skills supporting research activities.
