Job summary
SSE is seeking a talented Protection Planning Engineer to join our In-House Delivery and System Modelling team, supporting the Southern Distribution Network. You'll work on a diverse portfolio of protection coordination studies across voltage levels from 6.6kV to 132kV, developing relay settings and providing technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders.
Regular travel is required and a valid driving licence is essential.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience in load flow, short circuit and protection coordination studies.
- Knowledge of protection and control design across 11kV/33kV/132kV networks.
- UK electrical engineering standards, safety and quality mindset.
Responsibilities
- Carry out protection coordination and relay setting studies using industry-leading power system modelling tools.
- Analyse faults and disturbances, reviewing event records to identify issues.
- Provide technical support on protection settings and network performance.
- Produce protection study reports and technical documentation.
- Review designs, including protection philosophies and relay configurations to standards.
