Job summary

First Recruitment Group is seeking a Protection & Control Design Engineer to work on contract basis across UK offices. The role focuses on delivering P&C design solutions for HV transmission and renewable energy projects, while supporting FEED and detailed design across substations and energy infrastructure.

You will ensure designs meet industry standards and client specifications, contribute to multiple projects, and coordinate with stakeholders to maintain quality, programme, and budget

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer status through the IET.
• CDAE and/or LCDAE authorisation.
• Experience delivering Protection & Control FEED and detailed design for HV installations (132kV–400kV).
• Knowledge of UK transmission standards and processes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver Protection & Control FEED and detailed design for HV transmission and renewable energy projects.
• Develop interface designs, protection schemes, control philosophies, and settings coordination documentation.
• Produce and review design deliverables ensuring compliance with project requirements and quality standards.
• Support technical documentation, reports, bids, and client submissions.
• Participate in design reviews, hazard reviews, and engineering assurance activities.
• Identify and manage technical risks and contribute to safe-by-design principles per CDM requirements.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and conduct site visits/non-intrusive surveys to support design development.
