Job summary

Steeper Group in Portsmouth is seeking a HPCP-registered prosthetic clinician to join our clinical team. You will assess, design, fabricate, fit and adjust prostheses, support students and apprentices, and work within a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires experience in lower and upper limb prosthetics, strong IT skills, CAD/CAM experience, and excellent communication. A BSc Hons in Prosthetic and Orthotics is expected, with HPCP registration.

Qualifications

  • Experience with prosthetics prescribing for lower and upper limbs.
  • BSc Hons in Prosthetic and Orthotics or equivalent.
  • HPCP registration required or desirable.
  • Good computer and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Promote high standards of care across a range of amputation levels.
  • Assess, measure, cast, fit, deliver and adjust prosthesis.
  • Cast and rectify models using traditional methods and CADCAM where appropriate.
  • Manage patient cases with clear explanations of proposed interventions.
  • Work within evidence-based clinical governance.
  • Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Support colleagues, apprentices and students with mentorship.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a new Prosthetic clinician to join our existing team in the vibrant coastal city of Portsmouth. Portsmouth has easy transport links to London and is situated close to the Isle of Wight with access to the countryside (South Downs) within 30–40 minutes for hiking, cycling, and weekend trips. The city has a combination of historic attractions, a vibrant social scene and holds regular arts, music, and sporting events.

A prosthetist designs, fabricates, and fits artificial limbs (prostheses) for patients who have experienced limb loss due to congenital conditions, amputation, or injury, helping them to regain mobility, function, and independence. Their role involves assessing patient needs, working with technicians to create the custom-fit devices, and providing follow-up care to ensure proper fit and function. This post holder will provide clinical support to colleagues, apprentices and students based on their experience and special interests.

Your Responsibilities
  • Promote high standards of care to service users across a broad range of amputation levels.
  • Act in a professional manner to colleagues, service users and their families at all time
  • Assess, measure, cast, fit, deliver, supply, review and adjust prosthesis as required across a range of amputation levels, both upper and lower extremity
  • Cast and rectify models in a timely fashion using both traditional methods and CADCAM where appropriate
  • Manage the patient's case, including patient expectation, ensuring the individual's needs are respected and ensuring the patient is informed throughout the process with clear explanations of proposed interventions
  • Work within the parameters of accepted "best practice" at all times using evidence-based practices to ensure that all aspects of practice conform to clinical governance
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the most appropriate and effective treatment for service user
  • Support colleagues and the wider MDT through collaborative working
  • Support student and apprenticeship clinicians by sharing learning experiences and mentorship
What we are looking for
  • HPCP registered prosthetic clinician with some clinical experience desirable
  • Experience in lower limb prosthetics and upper limb prosthetics prescribing
  • BSc Hons in Prosthetic and Orthotics or equivalent, required to qualify for HPCP registration
  • Good computer skill and presentation skill
  • Experience with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other MS Office products
  • Experience with Cad system desirable
  • Good communicator
  • Any other relevant qualifications or professional memberships
