Job summary

HFG seeks an experienced Underwriter to join a UK Property division within a London Market insurer. This role focuses on UK multinational Property risks and packaged Casualty, leveraging strong broker networks in London and the regions to write new business and renewals.

You will deliver the underwriting strategy, assess complex risks, and provide technical pricing and coverage recommendations. Collaboration with senior leadership and brokers is essential to drive profitability and market

Qualifications

• Underwriting knowledge across Property and P&C lines.
• Strong broker network in London and/or regional markets.
• Experience assessing complex risks and applying underwriting guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Deliver underwriting strategy for the Property portfolio to drive profitable growth.
• Underwrite new and renewal business within delegated authority with sound judgement.
• Assess complex risks from applications and financial documents to determine acceptability.
• Recommend pricing, terms, conditions and coverage enhancements based on market conditions.
• Develop and maintain broker relationships, identifying opportunities for growth.
• Proactively pursue new business opportunities while strengthening broker connections.
• Collaborate with leadership to implement underwriting strategy and portfolio objectives.
• Prepare quotations and respond to technical underwriting enquiries from brokers and partners.
• Communicate underwriting decisions clearly, including referrals and rate negotiations.
• Monitor portfolio performance and provide insights on quality, rate adequacy and profitability.
• Contribute to development of underwriting appetite and trading strategy.
• Represent the organisation in broker meetings and industry events, promoting our proposition.
• Stay updated on market trends, regulatory developments and emerging risks.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, legal and governance requirements.
• Collaborate on risks beyond delegated authority and seek specialist input when needed.
• Develop proficiency across underwriting systems and participate in improvement initiatives.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
