Job description

Required: As soon as possible

Chinthurst School is seeking a proactive, hands-on individual to join our dedicated premises team. Working under the Maintenance Manager, you'll support the smooth daily operation of the school through a wide range of caretaking and maintenance tasks, including building repairs, event set-up, cleaning duties, and emergency response. This is a varied and physical role that requires a strong work ethic, a flexible attitude, and a willingness to learn. If you're reliable, practical, and enjoy being part of a supportive team, we’d love for you to apply.

CARETAKING TASKS:

The role involves completing and recording regular maintenance checks, attending to the arrivals of deliveries, ensuring facilities are fully stocked, supervision of contractors while on site, maintenance cleaning (minibuses, bins, windows), rubbish collation and removal.

MAINTENANCE TASKS:

Candidate will be required to work with colleagues to undertake building maintenance and general maintenance tasks with an aptitude to learn quickly. Most tasks are planned however responsive tasks are also required in a busy school environment. The willingness to respond, learn and complete work competently with a “can do” attitude is essential.

This is a fixed-term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship.

Closing date: Friday 11 July 2025, 9.00am

SAFEGUARDING

This role will involve contact with children. Reigate Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All applicants should read the school’s safeguarding policy (available on our website) and are required to declare any criminal convictions, cautions or disciplinary proceedings related to young people. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Services. Full details are given on the application form.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Candidates will be assessed against relevant criteria only (i.e. skills, qualifications, abilities, experience) in selection and recruitment. We know that more diverse teams are stronger teams, and that the more inclusive we are, the more our staff and pupils will feel a sense of belonging and will thrive.
