Job summary

Lancashire County Council is seeking a Commercial Property Lawyer to join the Legal Services team in Preston on a permanent, part-time basis (22.2 hours/week). You will manage a varied caseload, draft and negotiate complex property documents, and provide technical advice within a local government setting.

The role requires qualified legal status (Solicitor/Barrister/CILEx) with strong drafting and negotiation skills, plus good research and analytical abilities.

  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
  • Knowledge of local government/public law is desirable.

Responsibilities

As a Commercial Property Lawyer, You Will
  • Manage a complex caseload involving all aspects of commercial property work.
  • Provide technical legal advice to internal clients and stakeholders.
  • Draft and negotiate complex legal documents for a wide range of property transactions.
  • Advise on law and practice relating to the structure of transactions and commercial property law.
  • Apply legal knowledge to support the council’s strategic objectives while ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
What We're Looking For
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, or equivalent with a current practising certificate with developed experience in commercial property law.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Excellent research and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
  • Knowledge of local government and public law is desirable.

Local Government Reorganisation

The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028.

If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancashire County Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.
