Job summary

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a Property Lawyer to join our in-house Legal Services Commercial Team. You will advise on disposals and acquisitions of land and buildings, landlord and tenant matters, and residential property transactions, supporting officers and Members.

We value practical legal advice, risk management and collaboration. The role offers flexible hybrid working, a supportive team, and opportunities to develop within a growing local authority.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a professional qualification (Solicitor/Barrister/CILEx) and be licensed to practice.
  • Experience providing legal advice across a range of matters to elected Members and Officers.
  • Experience in property law, including land, leases and related disputes.

  • Effectively communicate legal advice to Members, Officers and stakeholders, including at committee meetings.

Join our Legal Services Commercial Team as a Property Lawyer and play a key role in supporting the delivery of vital public services across our local authority. As a Property Lawyer within our in-house legal team, you will work on a diverse and rewarding caseload, providing high-quality legal advice to the client service and stakeholders whilst managing risk, resolving disputes, and ensuring compliance with the law. As a member of the team, you will be supported at a senior level and by your peers in a growing and developing team of professionals. The team's focus is on enabling service delivery, to achieve this we adopt a partnering model with our clients, supporting them to deliver an ambitious agenda for North Northamptonshire.

  • Disposals and acquisitions of land and buildings
  • A range of Landlord & Tenant work - such as Leases, Licences, Tenancies, Deeds, etc
  • Residential purchases and sales
  • Providing legal advice on a variety of issues - such as boundary issues, leasehold enquiries.

It is desirable, but not essential, that you have local government experience, however, training and support would be offered as part of your continuous professional development.

You will:
  • Hold a relevant degree and be a qualified CILEX, Solicitor or Barrister, licensed to practice.
  • Effectively and appropriately provide and communicate legal advice commensurate to experience to Members, Officers and other stakeholders generally and at committee meetings.
  • Have experience in Property work.
