The National Trust is seeking a Property Experience Curator to lead audience-led engagement and care of the Lanhydrock collections at Bodmin. This flagship role shapes inclusive interpretation and programming that connects people with history and culture.

You will lead conservation projects, develop dynamic experiences with marketing support, and foster partnerships with communities to broaden access and enjoyment of the site.

Qualifications

• Experience in inclusive leadership and team development for staff and volunteers delivering great visitor experiences.
• Experience in strategic visitor experience planning with the development and delivery of a visitor plan that drives audience growth, satisfaction, and repeat visits.
• An understanding of audience-led interpretation and engagement delivering inclusive, insight-driven interpretation and programming that reflects diverse perspectives and enhances access to heritage.
• Experience of collections care and conservation leadership to maintain high standards in collections care and conservation, ensuring compliance and long-term planning.
• Skills in developing curatorial content through collaborative research and inclusive storytelling that connects people with place.
• Experience in networking and building partnerships that enhance programming, research and audience engagement.

Summary

We’re looking for a Property Experience Curator to lead audience-led engagement and collections care at one of our most significant heritage sites. This is a key leadership role, shaping inclusive experiences, interpretation and programming that connect people with history and culture in meaningful ways.

What It's Like To Work Here

The Lanhydrock estate comprises a grade 1 listed mansion set in a 12 hectare garden and surrounded by 360 hectares of countryside. The property is currently presented at its late Victorian zenith when it was the home of Thomas, 2nd Lord Robartes, his wife Mary and their large family who were looked after by a staff of 80. The property offers a fascinating insight into the workings of a country estate, both above and below stairs.

The property welcomes around 500,000 visitors a year to its wider estate and 40,000 users to the trails.

What You'll Be Doing

Your focus will be on creating a visitor plan that uses audience insight and research to deliver experiences that are inclusive, inspiring and evidence-based.

Collections care will sit at the heart of your work, ensuring compliance with Trust standards and statutory requirements while overseeing conservation projects and building capability within your team.

You’ll provide curatorial leadership that blends historical significance with audience insight, shaping interpretation and storytelling that reflects diverse perspectives.

Dynamic programming and presentation will be developed to respond to evolving audience needs, supported by marketing and communications plans that drive engagement and are audience-led.

Partnerships will play a key role – you’ll work with community, cultural and educational organisations to co-create experiences and share knowledge through networks, research and publications.

Leading and developing your team will be central, embedding a culture of inclusion, collaboration and continuous learning, and maximising opportunities for volunteers, interns and apprentices.

As part of the property leadership team, you’ll contribute to business planning and duty management, ensuring visitor growth, repeat visits and satisfaction targets are achieved. Team work, collaboration and modelling leadership values will be core to role.

Who We're Looking For

To deliver this role successfully, you'll need:

• Experience in inclusive leadership and team development leading for a positive, inclusive and productive environment for staff and volunteers in delivering great visitor experiences.
