Job summary

OCU is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join the Commercial & Estimating team in Eggborough. You will support the delivery of projects across OCU by managing subcontract accounts, costs and contractual matters to protect margins.

Qualifications

• We have a Quantity Surveyor role within our commercial team to support project delivery and cost control.
• Candidate will manage subcontract accounts, valuations, variations and final accounts with strong commercial oversight.
• Role requires understanding of contracts, procurement, forecasting and cost management.
• Excellent numeric, analytical and negotiation skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial and contractual aspects from tender through completion.
• Maintain subcontract accounts including valuations, payments, variations and final accounts.
• Support Senior Quantity Surveyor with cost management, forecasting and reporting.
• Monitor project costs, identify variances, risks and opportunities.
• Prepare cost estimates, budgets and forecasts from project information and drawings.
• Oversee tendering and procurement, evaluate quotations and negotiate with suppliers.
• Administer contracts including variations, claims and correspondence.
• Measure and value completed works and ensure payments align with contracts.
• Mitigate commercial risks to protect project margin and profitability.
• Prepare regular cost reports for project stakeholders.
• Build strong relationships with project teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Assist wider commercial team to deliver projects safely, efficiently and profitably.

Description

We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team, supporting the successful delivery of projects across OCU. This is a great opportunity offering a competitive package, including a car allowance. The role is responsible for the continued commercial administration of subcontract accounts, mitigation of commercial risk, protection of contract margin and supporting the Senior Quantity Surveyor with effective cost management. You'll work closely with project teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers to maintain strong commercial control throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered successfully, within budget and in line with contractual requirements.

What You'll Do

• Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of projects from tender through to completion.
• Maintain the commercial administration of subcontract accounts, including valuations, payments, variations and final accounts.
• Support the Senior Quantity Surveyor with project cost management, forecasting and reporting.
• Monitor project costs and expenditure, identifying variances, risks and opportunities.
• Prepare cost estimates, budgets and forecasts based on project information, drawings and specifications.
• Manage tendering and procurement processes, including evaluating quotations and negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Administer contracts, including variations, claims and commercial correspondence.
• Measure and value completed works and ensure payments are accurate and in line with contractual terms.
• Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks to protect project profitability and contract margin.
• Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts for project stakeholders.
• Build effective working relationships with project teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Support the wider commercial team in delivering projects safely, efficiently and profitably

Essential

What you'll bring

• Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, utilities, infrastructure or a related sector.
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts and commercial administration.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement and cost management.
• Experience with valuations, variations, payments, forecasting and final accounts.
• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Ability to work collaboratively with project and commercial teams.

Desirable

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• RICS or CICES membership, or working towards chartered status.
• Experience within the energy, utilities, power or infrastructure sectors.
• Experience working with NEC contracts.
• Knowledge of quantity surveying or commercial management software.
• Experience supporting a Senior Quantity Surveyor on complex projects.
