Job summary

WPS in Birmingham is seeking a commercially minded Project Quantity Surveyor to drive pre- and post-contract commercial activities across projects from inception to completion.

The role focuses on delivering profitable outcomes, managing subcontractor procurement, and maintaining robust reporting. You will collaborate with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners to optimise value, while upholding HSE standards and NEC contract awareness.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a Quantity Surveying or Project Surveying role.
  • Strong commercial awareness with cost management skills.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, measurement and valuation.
  • Experience managing subcontractor procurement and contracts.
  • Understanding of NEC contracts (preferred).
  • Strong financial and analytical skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • A proactive approach with a focus on delivering results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement pre and post-contract commercial strategies.
  • Manage commercial functions and contract reporting.
  • Support procurement, subcontractor management, and valuations.
  • Produce monthly CVRs and commercial reports.
  • Manage cash flow, cost control, and value recovery.
  • Support the agreement of final accounts.
  • Ensure contractual obligations and processes are completed on time.
  • Build relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
  • Promote health, safety, environmental and compliance standards across projects.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Project Surveyor, you'll take accountability for the development and implementation of pre and post-contract commercial strategies, ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably, and efficiently.


Your responsibilities will include:



  • Managing commercial functions and contract reporting

  • Supporting procurement, subcontractor management, and valuations

  • Producing monthly CVRs and commercial reports

  • Managing cash flow, cost control, and value recovery

  • Supporting the agreement of final accounts

  • Ensuring contractual obligations and processes are completed on time

  • Building strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners

  • Promoting health, safety, environmental and compliance standards across projects

  • Supporting project teams to achieve commercial and operational objectives


What We're Looking For

  • Experience in a Quantity Surveying or Project Surveying role

  • Strong commercial awareness with excellent cost management skills
