Project Planner – ATNC / Great Grid Partnership
The Opportunity

Laing O'Rourke is looking for a Project Planner to join the team delivering ATNC – Norwich to Tilbury, a major infrastructure project forming part of the Great Grid Upgrade.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-profile and complex infrastructure programme, working alongside experienced project, engineering, commercial and delivery teams.

As a Project Planner, you will support the development, management and monitoring of project programmes, providing accurate programme information to help the project team plan, coordinate and successfully deliver the works.

This role would suit an experienced Project Planner looking to develop their career within a major infrastructure environment, or a planning professional looking to broaden their experience across a complex, multi-disciplinary project.

Role Purpose

The Project Planner is responsible for supporting the development, management and monitoring of project programmes to help ensure successful project delivery.

Working closely with the project and delivery teams, the role will support programme development, progress monitoring, reporting and forecasting, while identifying potential risks, opportunities and impacts to programme performance.

The Project Planner will work collaboratively with engineering, commercial, procurement, construction and supply chain teams to ensure programme information is accurate, coordinated and aligned with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support planning, scheduling and coordination activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain project and construction programmes in line with project requirements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of contract programmes and associated programme information.
  • Ensure programmes are updated accurately and reflect current project progress.
  • Work with project teams to develop logical and achievable sequences of work.
  • Monitor progress against programme and agreed milestones.
  • Collect, analyse and report programme and progress information.
  • Identify potential programme risks, delays and opportunities and raise these with the project team.
  • Support the development of mitigation and recovery strategies where required.
  • Assist with programme reporting, forecasting and progress updates.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, commercial, procurement, construction and supply chain teams.
  • Coordinate programme information across relevant project stakeholders.
  • Support the integration of design, procurement and construction activities within the programme.
  • Contribute to project meetings and provide relevant programme updates and information.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of project planning and controls processes.
  • Develop effective working relationships with clients, stakeholders and supply chain partners.
  • Support and share knowledge with junior members of the planning team where appropriate.
  • Undertake additional planning responsibilities as required by the project and business.
Key Skills & Experience

We are looking for a motivated Project Planner with a good understanding of construction planning and project controls.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in project planning, programming or project controls within the construction or infrastructure sector.
  • Experience developing and maintaining project or construction programmes.
  • An understanding of construction sequencing and project delivery methodologies.
  • Experience monitoring progress against programmes and reporting on performance.
  • Ability to identify programme risks, opportunities and potential impacts.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project, engineering, commercial and construction teams.
  • Good stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience using project planning and programme management systems.
  • Ability to produce accurate programme information, reports and forecasts.
  • A proactive approach to identifying issues and supporting project teams in resolving them.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Experience of working on major infrastructure, energy, utilities, transmission, civil engineering or other complex construction projects would be advantageous.
