Job summary

Laing O'Rourke is seeking a Planning Manager to lead planning and scheduling for a major civil infrastructure programme in the UK. You will manage a team of planners, develop integrated project programmes, and collaborate with Project Managers, Engineering and Commercial teams to ensure robust delivery.

The role requires strong Primavera P6 expertise, leadership skills and experience within alliance or joint venture settings. Hybrid working is available as part of a major delivery environment.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in planning and scheduling for civil infrastructure projects.
  • Proven leadership in Planning Manager or Senior Planner roles.
  • Extensive knowledge of Primavera P6 and integrated project scheduling.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) is desirable.
  • Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • APM or CIOB membership advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and scheduling across Main Civil Works packages from pre-construction through delivery.
  • Manage and develop a team of planners to ensure high-quality programmes.
  • Develop, maintain and optimise integrated project programmes using Primavera P6 or equivalent tools.
  • Ensure alignment between planning, commercial and project controls with cost and performance reporting.
  • Drive planning standards, governance and best practice across the programme.
  • Support construction methodologies, sequencing and logistics strategies.
  • Lead programme reviews, progress reporting and performance analysis with stakeholders.
  • Identify risks, opportunities and mitigation for successful delivery.
  • Manage change control processes and Earned Value reporting.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to keep programmes realistic and deliverable.

Planning Manager

Location: Orwell Logistics Park, Ipswich

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes - Sizewell C - a once-in-a-generation clean energy project that will help power over 6 million homes for decades to come.

Working within the Civil Works Alliance (a partnership between Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke), you'll lead planning and programme management activities across the Main Civil Works, supporting the delivery of one of Europe's largest and most complex infrastructure programmes.

As a Planning Manager, you'll be responsible for leading a team of planners and driving best-in-class planning, scheduling and programme controls across multiple work packages. You'll work closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Commercial and Project Controls teams to ensure robust, integrated programmes are developed, maintained and delivered.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Leading planning and scheduling activities across Main Civil Works packages from pre-construction through to delivery
  • Managing and developing a team of planners, ensuring high standards of programme quality and consistency
  • Developing, maintaining and optimising integrated project programmes using Primavera P6 or equivalent tools
  • Ensuring alignment between planning, commercial and project controls functions, including cost and performance reporting
  • Driving the implementation of planning standards, governance and best practice across the programme
  • Supporting the development of construction methodologies, sequencing and logistics strategies
  • Leading programme reviews, progress reporting and performance analysis with key stakeholders
  • Identifying programme risks, opportunities and mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery
  • Managing change control processes, ensuring programme impacts are assessed and communicated effectively
  • Supporting Earned Value Management (EVM) and integrated performance reporting
  • Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure programmes are realistic, achievable and aligned with delivery strategies
What We're Looking For
  • Significant experience in planning and scheduling within major civil engineering, infrastructure or construction projects
  • Proven experience in a Planning Manager or Senior Planner leadership role
  • Strong expertise in Primavera P6 and programme management best practice
  • Experience developing and managing complex, integrated project schedules
  • Strong understanding of construction sequencing, methodologies and project delivery
  • Experience working within large infrastructure programmes, joint ventures or alliance environments
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret programme data and provide meaningful insightExperience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and integrated project controls is desirable
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (APM, CIOB or similar) would be advantageous
