Job summary

VolkerLaser, part of VolkerWessels UK, is seeking a Project Manager to cover secured projects across the Midlands, Southwest & South Wales, initially restoring Newport Transporter Bridge with blasting and painting work. The role suits someone who enjoys field-based work and travel, with diverse site teams and a busy pipeline ahead.

You will lead safe delivery, manage budgets, and report to stakeholders while ensuring compliance with design and temporary works standards.

Qualifications

  • Technical qualification in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in concrete and steel repair projects.
  • Proven project management abilities and on-site leadership.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to produce work package plans and task briefs.

  • Overall accountability for safe, compliant and successful project delivery.
  • Set project strategy, plans, programmes and delivery standards.
  • Own programme, cost, quality and HSE performance.
  • Set delivery strategy and manage risks, change and recovery.
  • Lead site teams and supply chain to right‑first‑time delivery.
  • Control budgets, resources and commercial outcomes.
  • Manage client, stakeholder and internal reporting.
  • Ensure technical, design and temporary works compliance.
  • Drive company values, team development and positive culture.

About us

VolkerLaser repairs, strengthens and waterproofs concrete and steel structures, offering a tailored package of specialist works to clients across the UK. Our structural solutions include bridge deck waterproofing, expansion joints, concrete repair and cathodic protection works, steel repair and strengthening work, carbon fibre and temporary works, jacking and bearing replacement. We also provide specialist lightweight decking and access solutions, as well as being specialists in long bridge and cable refurbishment.

About the role

We have an excellent opportunity for a Project Manager to join our Major Projects division to cover secured projects across the Midlands, Southwest & South Wales. However, initial project would be restoration work at the Newport Transporter Bridge, on a blasting and painting contract for a few months.

This presents a fantastic opportunity for someone with the relevant experience to join a growing contractor with a busy pipeline of work. The role will suit someone located in South Wales or West Midlands, who likes to be on the road.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall accountability for safe, compliant and successful project delivery

About you
  • Technical qualification (example Degree in civil engineering or HND)
  • Experience within concrete and steel repair
  • Somer exposure on blasting and painting contracts
  • Proven technical and project management abilities
  • Strong organisational and management skills
  • Knowledge of the requirements and implementation of CDM regulations
  • Ability to produce Work Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, and implement safe systems of work
  • Detailed knowledge of Safety, Quality and Environmental issues relevant to the project environment
