Job summary

Freedom, part of the NG Bailey Group, is seeking a Project Manager to lead Service Upgrade projects in the North East, coordinating with Northern Powergrid. The role drives project delivery from planning to energisation, ensuring safety, quality, and timely outcomes.

Key responsibilities include leading Field Managers, ensuring HSQE compliance, and managing multiple projects with strong commercial awareness and client-facing duties. A UK driving licence is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in project/operational management in cables/utilities/power distribution.
• Strong knowledge of LV cable networks.
• Understanding of new connections processes in a regulated utility.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent client and stakeholder management abilities.
• Strong commercial awareness and contract management experience.
• NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day delivery of Service Upgrade projects, ensuring safety, timeliness, and budget adherence.
• Lead and manage a dynamic team of Field Managers, Supervisors, Planners, Engineers, and Site Operatives.
• Act as the primary operational contact with Northern Powergrid.
• Ensure compliance with HSQE policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
• Manage multiple projects concurrently from planning through energisation and handover.
• Plan and allocate resources effectively to meet project demands.
• Monitor KPIs and contract performance, implementing improvements as needed.
• Ensure timely completion of RAMS and as-built records.
• Liaise with local authorities, subcontractors, and stakeholders for delivery.
• Support commercial performance through effective planning and resource management.
• Promote safety, quality, and continuous improvement across activities.

Your Role

What We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications:

• Experience in operational or project management roles within cable installation, utilities, or power distribution.
• Strong knowledge of LV cable networks.
• Understanding of new connections processes in a regulated utility environment.
• Proven leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent client and stakeholder management abilities.
• Strong commercial awareness and contract management experience.
• NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience working on Northern Powergrid contracts.
• Knowledge of Streetworks and NRSWA requirements.
• Project Management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, APM).
