About The Role
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Project Manager (Fieldwork) to join the York Archaeology team at our office in Nottingham (formerly Trent and Peak Archaeology).
York Archaeology is the trading name for the delivery of commercial archaeological services for York Archaeological Trust (YAT). The Trust combines world famous heritage attractions, with excavation, survey, consultancy, expert conservation services, research and an unmatched commitment to dissemination, engagement and public benefit.
We are building on the vision that led from the Coppergate excavation to the Jorvik Viking Centre, DIG, and the annual Viking Festival (https://www.jorvikvikingcentre.co.uk), with a pioneering spirit of innovation to deliver benefits from archaeology and cultural heritage.
To help in our mission we are looking for an additional fieldwork Project Manager with the character and skills to deliver commercial contracts cost-effectively and to the satisfaction of clients. Just as importantly we are looking for someone with the ambition, patience and drive to use this platform of discovery to help build the connections to secure positive social impacts through archaeology/heritage.
This extends to exciting opportunities to contribute to new initiatives in public engagement, education, research and publication, via conventional and digital modes, building on the achievements of our world-famous Jorvik Viking Centre.
If you feel you have demonstrable relevant experience and skills, or indeed untapped potential and are ready for a change, get in touch and explore the possibilities.
As a fieldwork Project Manager you will be part of a dynamic, high-achieving fieldwork management team, responsible for the design and delivery of commercial fieldwork for a range of clients across the planning and development sector.
You will be able to demonstrate the full range of core skills and0 abilities required for a project manager of high-profile, small to large scale commercial archaeological fieldwork programmes, including a thorough knowledge of UK commercial archaeology, planning legislation and policy relating to heritage and the built environment; client liaison and relationship management, tender design and preparation, safe working practices, fieldwork project design, programming and delivery; financial management and efficient collaboration with multi-disciplinary project design teams.
Expert knowledge of a specialist area of UK archaeology would be advantageous. Ideally you will also be able to demonstrate experience of and expertise in developing new client relationships to add to a growing client base, and the development of systems for the delivery of medium to large-scale fieldwork programmes.
We also want evidence of enthusiasm, a questioning but positive mindset, a proactive approach to challenges, and a keen desire to move beyond the conventional limits of commercial archaeology and shape a better future.
A full, clean UK (manual) driving licence and CSCS qualification are essential.
A CIfA Registered Organisation membership is encouraged amongst staff and would be advantageous to applicants.
