About Us:

Here at c2c we take pride in being an award-winning train operator running services between Fenchurch Street and Shoeburyness, serving 26 stations in East London and South Essex. We are looking for a dedicated and versatile individual to join our team as a Project Manager on a 18 month FTC.

Purpose of the Role:

Working as an IT literate, collaborative team player, support the senior leadership and service delivery management team through the provision of Project Management in the delivery of a tender and subsequent procurement for resource and planning suite. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced project manager with expertise in complex procurement processes, IT system implementations, and change management, ideally within the rail sector.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the end-to-end project management of the procurement, and implementation, of the new Resource and Planning Suite. Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, ensuring all deliverables, timelines, and milestones are met. Oversee the project to demobilise the existing suite after a series of tests and parallel running.
  • Work closely with the Service Delivery Management team procurement team, and Business Change Manager to oversee the tendering and procurement process. This includes market engagement, managing vendor selection, and ensuring the procurement process follows internal and external governance and meets operational requirements.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, operational teams, by acting as the key point of contact for the project between c2c and the market, (including IT, operations, and senior management), and the project team. Ensure effective communication and collaboration to drive the successful delivery of the project.
  • Maintain project risk and dependencies register in compliance with c2c internal governance.
  • Proactively identify and manage risks, issues, and dependencies throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure that mitigation strategies are in place and that the project team is aligned on risk management actions.
  • Work closely with the Service Delivery Finance Business Partner, to ensure that the project is delivered within. Provide regular budget updates and manage any changes to the project scope that may impact on the budget.
  • Work closely with the Business Change Manager to ensure the new Resource and Planning Suite aligns with operational requirements by ensuring timely deployment of the ‘as is and to be’ analysis. Ensure smooth integration of the new system with current processes, systems, and data sources and demobilisaiton of the existing arrangements.
  • Ensure the delivery of user training materials and documentation, ensuring that operational teams are fully prepared for the new system. Monitor training rollouts and ensure that all stakeholders are adequately trained.
  • Provide regular progress updates to senior leadership, ensuring that stakeholders are informed of key milestones, risks, and issues and present papers to internal portfolio board and Executive teams for discussion and approval.
  • Support the post-implementation phase, ensuring that the new system is functioning as expected and that any post-launch issues are resolved promptly. Conduct a post-implementation review to assess project success and identify lessons learned.
  • Support the development and deployment of other Service Delivery projects through the provision of technical advice and professional guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations and that employee confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Support delivery of efficient rail operations to contribute to the c2c net zero policy.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, with general education to GCSE, O level, or equivalent standards including English Mathematics and Science to the standard of at least GCSE Grade C/Level 4.
  • Strong team player who will collaborate with immediate colleagues and professionally support the Head of Service Delivery
  • At least 5+ years of project management experience, with a strong track record of managing complex IT system procurement, deployment, and integration projects. Previous experience with Resource and Planning Systems (especially in the rail sector) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to investigate and interpret data thoroughly and accurately, build business cases, including detailed knowledge and experience with appropriate industry recognised systems and technology. Experience of leading tender and procurement processes, from RFP creation to vendor selection and contract negotiations. Familiarity with procurement governance and compliance.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior executives, technical teams, and external vendors. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships and influence decision-making. Experience with similar large-scale system implementations in a rail environment is highly desirable.
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks and issues. Implement mitigation strategies and manage project budgets, resources, and timelines, to ensure project delivery within financial constraints.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies such as PRINCE2, Agile, or PMI. PMP, Prince2, or equivalent certification.
