Job summary

Orion Group, on behalf of a long-established HV engineering solutions provider, seeks a Project Manager to join its Highland-based team in Scotland to lead transformative projects supporting the Net Zero agenda.

You will oversee multiple projects from feasibility to construction across the North East and Highland regions, managing technical and financial performance while ensuring safety, cost, quality and timely delivery. This role requires strong leadership and NEC3 contract experience.

Qualifications

  • Experience in DNO/Electricity projects or HV/LV works and commissioning experience.
  • Proven experience managing electrical power distribution projects in energy/utilities.
  • Ability to develop and execute project lifecycle programmes.
  • Track record delivering large-scale projects in engineering/construction/power distribution.
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations including CDM.
  • Excellent communication and leadership to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Contract management expertise (NEC3 preferred) with budgeting and forecasting.

Job description

Our client, a long established provider of HV Engineering solutions, is seeking to add a Project Manager to there Highland based team to lead transformative projects that support Scotland's Net Zero ambitions.

In this role, you will lead multiple projects of varying scale and complexity, mainly across the North East and Highland regions overseeing their journey from feasibility and development through to construction.

Ourclients project portfolio includes large-scale capital delivery projects as well as the development and construction of new and existing electrical infrastructure schemes.As the Project Manager, you will be responsible for both the technical and financial performance of projects, ensuring that key objectives in safety, cost, quality, and programme delivery are met throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee Technical & Financial Performance - Manage both the technical and financial aspects of multiple projects.
  • Define & Lead the Project Team - Establish the project matrix, ensuring clear reporting structures and communication channels.
  • Coordinate Vendors & Subcontractors - Define project requirements for all external partners, ensuring clear points of contact.
  • Ensure Accurate Project Planning - Develop detailed project plans, including activity schedules and invoicing milestones, are aligned with contractual obligations.
  • Manage Contract Administration - Ensure timely and compliant execution and documentation of all contract actions and modifications.
  • Maintain Safety and Quality Standards - Ensure project development and execution meets safety and quality performance requirements.
  • Enhance Project Competitiveness - Improve tender competitiveness and add value through analysis and option development
What we're looking for
  • Experience in DNO/Electricity projects OR strong expertise in HV/LV cable laying, switchgear installation, cable jointing, and commissioning experience is essential.
  • Proven experience managing electrical power distribution projects, particularly in the energy or utilities sector.
  • The ability to develop and execute project lifecycle programmes is essential
  • A proven track record in delivering large-scale projects within engineering, construction, or power distribution is essential
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations, including CDM regulations is essential
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels including customers, contractors, regulatory bodies, and authorities.
  • Contract management expertise (NEC3 preferred), with experience in forecasting and controlling project budgets.
Qualifications
  • Project Management certification (APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent)or working towards is desirable however not essential.
