Job Overview

81286 - Project Engineer (Senior Authorised Person). This Project Engineer (Senior Authorised Person) will report to the Lead Field Engineer and will work within UK Power Networks Services based in our Hampshire or Wiltshire office. You will be a permanent employee.

Salary: £80,574 plus car; bonus of 3%.

Close Date: 07/10/2025.

Job Purpose

Deliver projects in the UK defence sector for all high profile clients. The role includes capital programme and NAMP projects in addition to electrical infrastructure works generated from the long-term operation and maintenance of 33kV/11kV/400V private network contracts. Although the core clients are based in and around Hampshire and Wiltshire you may also work on other similar projects across the UK Power Networks Services portfolio. We seek an experienced 33kV Operational Project Engineer to provide 33kV engineering support for specific critical 33kV activities including standby and emergency cover for electrical distribution equipment and infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure safety management throughout all areas.
  • Deliver construction, maintenance and fault works to time, cost and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with all procedures and work to a high standard of quality.
  • Plan daily activities, coordinate and manage resources efficiently.
  • Collaborate with HV/LV control – submit HV/LV switching schedules and manage HV/LV network operations per distribution safety rules and procedures.
  • Provide technical support to field staff.
  • Produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements for safe project delivery.
  • Complete quality assurance checks of works and rectify quality issues.
  • Collaborate with and manage relationships with customers to meet their expectations where possible.
  • Be prepared to assist other sections during organisational changes or system emergencies as required by experience.
  • Complete out-of-hours safety/emergency response (Standby).
  • Manage contractors, carrying out high and low voltage maintenance activities.
Qualifications
  • Senior Authorised Person as defined by the Distribution Safety Rules – up to and including 33kV.
  • HNC Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in distribution systems from 400V to 33kV.
  • High level of customer focus; adds value to the customer and ensures project delivery to expectations.
  • Teamworking and ability to integrate into a team.
  • Ability to achieve full Ministry of Defence Security Clearance.
  • Ability to identify problems, understand issues and investigate alternatives.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision to manage and prioritise a varied workload and communicate with all levels.
  • Experience working as part of a small team on high-profile projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, MS Project and other software packages.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation, CDM standards and safe working focus.
  • Initiative to develop the business to agreed goals.
  • Candidates working towards full SAP status may be considered at a lower salary scale with an agreed progression plan.
