Job summary

EMBS Engineering in Wolverhampton seeks a Project Engineer to bridge strategy, manufacturing execution and on-time delivery for bespoke programmes. On-site coordination with production, manufacturing engineering and quality teams is required to ensure safety, timing and quality are met.

The role involves coordinating schedules, tracking progress and liaising with shop floor and leadership to resolve issues. On-site work and UK residency are assumed for this position.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in project engineering or manufacturing.
• Experience with SAP, MS Project, and Excel.
• On-site coordination of bespoke assemblies.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate bespoke manufacturing programmes from material purchasing through machining, fabrication, inspection, stores and assembly.
• Build realistic production schedules using tender information and detailed manufacturing inputs.
• Track parts, route cards, materials and progress; escalate delays.
• Liaise with cell leaders and manufacturing engineering to align requirements.
• Monitor in-process docs, including route cards and quality plans.
• Schedule and lead customer or third-party site visits and witness points.
• Monitor subcontractor delivery against master schedule and identify improvement opportunities.
• Produce progress reports for internal stakeholders and senior management.

Job Title: Project Engineer

Overview

EMBS Engineering are recruiting a Project Engineer to bridge the gap between project strategy, manufacturing execution and on-time delivery. Working closely with production, manufacturing engineering and quality teams, you will act as the on-site coordinator for bespoke, complex manufacturing programmes, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate bespoke manufacturing programmes from material purchasing through machining, fabrication, inspection, stores and assembly.
• Build realistic production schedules using tender information and detailed manufacturing engineering inputs.
• Track parts, route cards, materials and progress across manufacturing, inspection and assembly, identifying delays and escalating to the relevant team.
• Liaise with manufacturing cell leaders and the manufacturing engineering team to ensure project requirements are clearly understood and planned.
• Monitor and coordinate completion of in-process documentation, including route cards and quality plans.
• Schedule and lead customer or third-party site visits and witness points, ensuring changes are formally documented.
• Monitor subcontractor delivery against the master schedule and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Produce progress reports and communicate project updates to internal stakeholders and senior Management.

• Alternatively, a 12-month contract inside IR35 may be considered, with a day rate broadly equivalent to £30 - £36.57 per hour.

Requirements

• Practical experience in project engineering or manufacturing, ideally within precision or advanced manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as fabrication, welding or machining.
• Comfortable working on site and coordinating multiple concurrent, bespoke or one-off assemblies.
• Strong organisational skills with a proactive, hands‑on approach.
• Able to recognise technical or production issues and elevate them to the right team, rather than resolve them personally.
• Confident communicator, able to engage effectively from the shop floor to senior leadership.
• Eligible to obtain UK national security clearance.
• Minimum HNC/HND in engineering, or an equivalent level of qualification.
• Experience within a smaller subcontract or SME manufacturing environment, rather than highly regimented, high-volume automotive production.
• Experience within the nuclear or defence sector.
• Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Project, Excel and other planning or reporting tools.
