Job description

Ripley, Derbyshire | £46,400 + £2,800 target bonus | Monday-Friday

Play a key role in shaping the future of a world-class manufacturing operation.

Are you a hands-on Project Engineer who enjoys turning ideas into practical improvements? Do you want to take ownership of capital projects, enhance manufacturing performance and see the tangible results of your work?

We're recruiting for an established global manufacturing business with an excellent reputation for quality, innovation and sustainability. Operating across multiple international locations, the organisation manufactures a diverse range of high-quality flooring products for commercial and residential markets.

Its Ripley site combines sophisticated manufacturing processes with a strong commitment to safety, quality, energy efficiency and continuous improvement. With a growing pipeline of investment projects, this is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit engineering team and make a real difference to site performance.

The opportunity

As Project Engineer, you'll report to the Engineering Manager and play a key role in delivering capital projects from initial concept through to commissioning and final handover.

Working as part of a dedicated Projects Team within the wider Engineering Department, you'll have the opportunity to manage a varied portfolio of projects, improve equipment reliability, strengthen site safety and help increase manufacturing capacity.

The site has recently delivered around 24 capital projects, ranging in value from approximately £9,000 to £500,000, with further investment opportunities potentially exceeding £1 million. You'll have the scope to take ownership, influence decisions and see your projects make a measurable impact.

What you'll be doing
  • Delivering capital projects: Plan, coordinate and manage multiple engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring safe delivery, quality and value for money.
  • Driving improvement: Identify opportunities to improve safety, asset reliability, operational efficiency and manufacturing capacity.
  • Managing budgets and schedules: Develop project plans, cost estimates, budgets and delivery schedules, proactively managing risks and opportunities.
  • Supporting investment decisions: Prepare capital expenditure justifications, undertake return-on-investment calculations and present recommendations.
  • Managing suppliers and contractors: Obtain quotations, evaluate tenders, support procurement and coordinate contractors to ensure work is delivered safely and effectively.
  • Keeping stakeholders informed: Provide clear progress updates, manage expectations and communicate project risks, costs and milestones.
  • Commissioning and handover: Ensure completed projects are commissioned effectively and handed over with the appropriate documentation and support.
What we're looking for

You’ll be an experienced Project Engineer with a background in an automated or semi-automated manufacturing environment, ideally involving continuous-process operations. You'll combine sound engineering knowledge with strong project management skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A recognised qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least five years’ experience in an automated or semi-automated manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing capital investment projects from planning through to commissioning and handover.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing site infrastructure and engineering utilities.
  • A good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements, with the confidence to ensure projects meet site standards.
  • The ability to read, use and create AutoCAD drawings.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions when managing complex situations.
  • A proactive, organised and self-motivated approach, with a genuine commitment to continuous improvement.
What's on offer?
  • Salary of £46,400 per annum
  • Target bonus of £2,800
  • Permanent, full-time opportunity with an established global manufacturing organisation.
  • Monday-Friday working pattern, with no regular shift rotation.
  • 26 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays.
  • Stakeholder pension scheme, with company matching contributions of up to 7%.
  • Access to a Medicash healthcare cash plan.
  • Employee Assistance Programme and occupational health support.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Free workwear.
Working pattern and location

The role is based fully on-site at the company’s Ripley, Derbyshire manufacturing facility. The standard working week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday, with core hours of 8:30am-4:45pm and an earlier finish on Fridays. Occasional travel to suppliers, exhibitions and other project-related locations may be required.
