Job description

Join to apply for the Project Engineer role at Wessex Water

Would you enjoy being part of a hands-on, multidisciplinary team focused on delivering complex projects? If so, we have an interesting opportunity to join our small schemes team based in our south division as a Project Engineer.

What you'll do

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for both reactive and planned capital maintenance projects across a diverse range of sites, including water recycling, water production, sewerage and water distribution.

The value of projects varies typically between around £15,000 to £200,000 and will be based in the south area covering Christchurch, Warminster, Charmouth and everywhere in between.

Projects can include planned pumping station upgrades, reactive primary settlement tank half bridge centre bearing and slip ring repairs, emergency wastewater treatment side streams, and adding additional carbon GAC treatment for water production.

Your role will involve:

  • optioneering, contracts, tendering, spend forecasting, project delivery, commissioning, authoring payments and project closedowns
  • working closely with our contractors
  • ensuring that all health and safety and other statutory regulations that may affect the construction process are adhered to
  • ensuring the delivery process accords with our policies
  • ensuring company and departmental targets are met
  • assisting in the establishment of budgets and approvals.

What you'll need

Ideally, you will be from a construction and/or water industry background with experience in project management and working closely with external contractors. It is essential that you have a safety-first approach and good negotiation and influencing skills.

In addition, you will need:

  • a positive and "can-do" attitude
  • to be well-organised, customer-focused and a great team player
  • to hold a formal qualification in project management
  • to ideally hold a technical level 4 (HNC) qualification
  • to be a professionally registered engineer (EngTech/IEng) or working towards this - support can be given on professional registration
  • to have a working knowledge of CDM 2015
  • a valid driving licence (a company car will be provided if you are not able to use your own vehicle).

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • An interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.
