The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing project scopes aimed at identifying and reducing dust explosion hazards, improving site compliance and delivering practical engineering solutions across the process environment. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer with a strong ATEX / combustible dust background to take ownership of projects from initial site assessment and risk identification through to scope development, budget approval and implementation.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • Lead the development and implementation of ATEX-related engineering projects across the site.

  • Work closely with the site engineering, operations, EHS and maintenance teams to understand hazards and develop appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Develop project scopes to reduce and control combustible dust hazards and associated explosion risks.
  • Provide technical input and recommendations based on current ATEX requirements, industry standards and good engineering practice.
  • Develop CAPEX estimates, project budgets and business cases to support investment decisions.
  • Prepare project documentation and secure the necessary budget approval and stakeholder sign-off.
  • Manage projects through the engineering lifecycle, from initial concept and scope development through to implementation and completion.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, contractors and specialist suppliers as required.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, effectively and in line with agreed scope, budget and timescales.
  • Provide clear progress updates and communicate project risks, issues and requirements to key stakeholders.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
  • Strong, demonstrable ATEX experience, ideally gained within a process, manufacturing, food, FMCG, chemical or similarly hazardous industry.
  • Proven experience working with combustible dust / dust explosion hazards and delivering engineering projects designed to reduce associated risks.
  • A strong understanding of ATEX principles and their practical application within an operational manufacturing environment.
  • Experience undertaking site assessments, gap analysis and risk identification.
  • Proven ability to develop practical engineering solutions in collaboration with operations and site engineering teams.
  • Strong project engineering and project management experience.
  • Experience developing detailed project scopes, cost estimates and CAPEX proposals.
  • Experience securing budget approval and taking projects from concept through to implementation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership and operate effectively within a busy manufacturing environment.
It's great if you also have the following
  • Experience within the food, FMCG or process manufacturing sector.
  • Experience with dust extraction, containment, explosion protection or other combustible dust risk-reduction measures.
  • Previous experience working on ATEX improvement programmes or site-wide ATEX remediation projects.
  • Engineering qualification or equivalent practical engineering experience.
  • Experience managing contractors and specialist engineering suppliers.
