Job summary

Elev8 Recruitment Ltd is recruiting for a Project Design Engineer in Saffron Walden, Essex. The role covers the full project lifecycle from initial requirements to design, manufacture and installation.

You’ll work on bespoke engineering projects, not just variations, with exposure to manufacturing, customers and site activities. UK and international travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Background in Mechanical Design or Project Engineering.
• CAD experience using Inventor, AutoCAD or similar.
• Experience within manufacturing, fabrication or machinery environments.
• Understanding of welding, MIG/TIG.
• Some exposure to HVAC systems.
• Awareness of RF or shielding concepts would be beneficial.
• Ability to read and work from construction drawings.
• Practical hands-on approach to engineering.
• Confidence dealing with customers, suppliers and project stakeholders.

• Producing 2D and 3D CAD designs using Inventor, AutoCAD or similar.
• Developing bespoke designs around project requirements.
• Creating technical drawings and documentation for manufacture.
• Supporting projects from concept through manufacture and installation.
• Reading and interpreting construction drawings.
• Liaising with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
• Coordinating designs with architects and other contractors.
• Working closely with manufacturing and fabrication teams.
• Carrying out dimensional checks on fabricated components.
• Visiting sites for surveys and supporting installations.
• Attending client and site meetings.

Project Design Engineer

£40,000 - £45,000

Saffron Walden, Essex

Ever designed something, sent the drawings off and wondered what actually happened to it?

That won’t be the case here.

This is a Project Design Engineer role where you’ll get involved from the initial requirement through to design, manufacture and installation.

You’ll be working on bespoke engineering projects rather than churning out variations of the same design. There’s plenty of technical work, but you’ll also get closer to manufacturing, customers and what happens on site.

The Role

You’ll take project requirements and turn them into practical designs that can actually be manufactured and installed.

It’s not a CAD-only position.

You’ll work closely with manufacturing and installation teams, deal with customers and suppliers, coordinate with other contractors and get out to site when projects require it.

Depending on the project, you could work alongside a Project Manager or take ownership of the project yourself.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture and installation

• Carrying out dimensional checks on fabricated components
• Visiting sites for surveys and supporting installations

• Managing drawings and design information throughout the project

There will also be some UK and international travel depending on project requirements.

What We’re Looking For

You don’t need to tick every box, but you do need to be someone who understands engineering beyond the CAD screen.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• A background in Mechanical Design or Project Engineering
• CAD experience using Inventor, AutoCAD or similar
• Experience within manufacturing, fabrication or machinery environments
• An understanding of welding, including MIG/TIG
• Some exposure to HVAC systems
• Awareness of RF or shielding concepts would be beneficial, but isn’t essential
• The ability to read and work from construction drawings
• A practical, hands-on approach to engineering
• Confidence dealing with customers, suppliers and different project stakeholders

You’ll also need a valid UK driving licence and UK passport and must be eligible to obtain and maintain BPSS security clearance.
