Job summary

This is a hands-on design and project engineering role based in an office setting (NN14), with permanent, full‑time employment. Salary is £45,000–£50,000 per annum, plus 32 days holiday including bank holidays, a pension, and a discretionary bonus.

The role involves leading projects from concept through manufacture, installation and commissioning in collaboration with projects, sales and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• Experience with SolidWorks is essential.
• Ability to produce 2D/3D general arrangement drawings.
• Experience designing sheet metal/fabricated components.
• Experience with conveyors, heavy machinery or industrial equipment.

Are you an experienced Project Engineer with a strong background in SolidWorks and mechanical design? Do you have experience designing sheet metal fabrications, special purpose machinery, conveyors or heavy industrial equipment? If yes, read on...

Our client is a well-established engineering business designing and manufacturing bespoke machinery and systems for industrial applications. Due to an increase in projects, they are looking to add an experienced Project Engineer to their engineering team.

This is a hands-on design and project engineering position where you'll take ownership of projects from initial concept and design through to manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning.

The Role

Working closely with the Projects, Sales and Manufacturing teams, you'll be responsible for designing bespoke machinery and plant layouts, including integrating new equipment into existing customer facilities.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Producing 2D and 3D General Arrangement drawings and system layouts
• Designing using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
• Designing sheet metal fabrications and components for heavy industrial machinery
• Integrating conveyors, structures and other equipment with third-party machinery
• Developing designs around existing customer equipment and space restrictions
• Optimising layouts to improve material flow, space utilisation and overall process efficiency
• Producing detailed manufacturing drawings from 3D models
• Creating and releasing Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Taking ownership of engineering projects from concept through to manufacture and commissioning
• Working closely with customers, suppliers, Project Engineers, Sales and Manufacturing teams
• Producing technical specifications and supporting documentation
• Attending customer sites to take/check measurements and support installation and commissioning
• Reviewing existing designs and suggesting improvements to manufacturing methods, cost and performance

Minimum Skills / Experience Required:

• Strong previous experience within Project Engineering, Mechanical Design or a similar engineering position
• Advanced SolidWorks experience is essential
• Experience producing General Arrangement drawings and system layouts
• Experience designing sheet metal/fabricated components
• Previous exposure to special purpose machinery, conveyors, heavy machinery or industrial equipment
• Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings and BOMs
• Good understanding of the make-to-order design process
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Able to consider safety, regulations and practical manufacturing requirements throughout the design process
• Confident communicating with customers, suppliers and internal engineering/manufacturing teams
• Experience within recycling equipment or materials handling would be highly advantageous
• Structural design experience would be advantageous but is not essential
