Job summary

Severfield PLC in Dalton, Thirsk, North Yorkshire is seeking a Project Buyer for a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will manage end-to-end procurement for high-value projects across multiple units, sourcing materials and services at competitive rates while ensuring timely delivery and budget alignment.

The role requires experience in procurement within manufacturing or steel, strong negotiation and ERP/MRP skills, and the ability to work closely with project teams to meet tight schedules.

Qualifications

• Experience in a procurement or buying role, ideally in manufacturing / construction or steel industry.
• Good understanding of supply chain management and procurement best practices.
• Experience working with ERP/MRP systems.
• Strong numerical, commercial, and negotiation skills.
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
• Adaptable, proactive, and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Manage procurement activities for multiple projects from sourcing through to delivery.
• Work closely with project teams to align procurement plans with project timelines and objectives.

• Identify and mitigate supply chain risks that could impact project delivery.
• Monitor project procurement spend and support budget control.
• Track material deliveries to meet manufacturing and project requirements.
• Maintain accurate procurement records and system data.
• Review and approve supplier invoices for payment.
• Ensure compliance with supply agreements, company policies, and project specifications.

In the Project Buyer position you will be part of the Group Procurement Team, where you'll be

procuring project-related materials and services across multiple business units. You'll manage end-to-end procurement activities for high-value projects, ensuring materials are sourced competitively, delivered on time, and aligned with project budgets and requirements.
