Job summary

Pencil and Brick is seeking a Project Architect to join our London studio near Brick Lane. You will take ownership of private residential schemes from concept through delivery, mentoring junior staff and coordinating with design and construction teams.

The role requires ARB registration with at least 5 years post-registration UK experience, strong technical and design coordination skills, and excellent client-facing communication. Friday WFH available.

Pencil and Brick is an award-winning, architect-led design and build practice specialising in high-quality private residential renovations and home transformations across North and East London.

As a RIBA Chartered Practice and active contributor to the Federation of Master Builders, the company combines architectural design excellence with construction delivery - challenging the traditional separation between design and build.

The Opportunity

Pencil and Brick is seeking a Project Architect to join its growing architectural team. This role will suit an experienced ARB-registered Architect who enjoys taking ownership of projects from concept through delivery, while mentoring junior team members and contributing to the wider development of a design-led practice.

You will manage multiple residential projects simultaneously, working closely with the Design Team Lead and construction teams to deliver exceptional private residential schemes. This is a long-term career opportunity with clear progression into senior leadership and director-level positions.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • ARB registration with minimum 5 years post-registration UK practice experience Strong private residential project experience
  • Proven Project Architect experienceAbility to manage projects independently
  • Excellent technical and design coordination skills
  • Strong communication and client-facing ability
  • Alignment with Pencil and Bricks collaborative, values-led culture
Desirable Experience
  • Senior Project Architect experience
  • Experience leading small design teams
  • Vectorworks experience (or willingness to learn)
  • Experience delivering architect-led residential projects end-to-end
  • Comfortable working primarily from the Brick Lane studio (Friday WFH policy)
