Job Overview

The Project Accountant is responsible for financial tracking, reporting, and ensuring donor compliance, providing insights to project teams. The role focuses on maintaining financial integrity and operational efficiency across projects. The position is based in the UK, requiring presence in our London office at least 2 days per week, reporting to the Director of Group Finance.

Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Reporting

• Oversee project finances for accuracy and timeliness
• Track costs against budgets and forecasts
• Prepare and review invoices with teams and project managers
• Conduct reconciliations, variance analysis, and monitor burn rates
• Ensure timely invoicing to donors
• Review journal entries, ensuring compliance with standards
• Manage inter-company transactions and foreign currency transactions when applicable

Budgeting & Cost Control

• Support project budgets and financial forecasts
• Maintain cost trackers
• Align resource additions with budget margins
• Update forecasts regularly
• Provide financial insights for decision-making

Compliance & Audits

• Ensure expenses meet donor and contractual requirements
• Support audits and implement recommendations
• Maintain internal controls and policies
• Ensure documentation compliance

Stakeholder Engagement

• Collaborate with project and operations managers
• Support proposal development with financial input
• Provide regular financial reports to management
• Act as point of contact for finance inquiries
• Represent Zinc in client and partner meetings when needed

Requirements

• Part Qualified/Studying towards CPA, ACCA, CIMA preferred
• Minimum 3 years in project accounting or similar
• Experience with financial tracking, reporting, forecasting
• Knowledge of donor compliance for international projects
• Experience with month-end processes and reconciliations
• Advanced Excel and financial systems skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Effective communication skills in diverse environments
• ERP system experience (preferred)
• Knowledge of international accounting standards (preferred)
