The Role
You will play a key part in tracking project finances from start to finish, ensuring costs are correctly allocated, payments are processed accurately, and project data is reported clearly to senior stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Managing the project purchase ledger, including invoice processing, reconciliation, and query resolution
- Processing contractor and supplier payments in line with agreed terms
- Allocating labour, materials, and overhead costs to individual projects
- Maintaining and supporting stock control and allocation to live projects
- Producing monthly project cost reports, variance analysis, and forecasts
- Supporting project budgeting and ongoing cost monitoring
- Providing accurate financial information to support management decision–making
- Assisting with year–end, audit, and project close–out reporting
- Ensuring compliance with internal financial controls and procedures
- Working closely with project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Contributing to the improvement of systems and financial processes
Systems
- Day–to–day accounting and reporting using Sage 50
- Collaboration with project teams using project management software (e.g. (url removed) or similar)
About You
You ll be a practical and detail–focused finance professional with experience in a project–based or construction–related environment.
You re likely to have
- Experience in project accounting, job costing, or purchase ledger within construction, engineering, or infrastructure
- Strong working knowledge of Sage 50 (or similar SME accounting systems)
- Confidence managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to liaise with suppliers and contractors
- A proactive mindset and interest in improving financial processes
