Job description

Production Manager

Location: Angus, Scotland
Salary: £40-45k DOE

Contract: Permanent

About the Role

I am seeking an experienced and practical Production Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a chemical manufacturing plant in Angus on behalf of my client. This is a hands-on management role, combining leadership of a small production team with direct involvement in the practical operation of the plant. You will play a key role in ensuring production runs safely, efficiently and consistently to the required quality standards, while troubleshooting operational issues and identifying opportunities for improvement. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong manufacturing background who enjoys taking ownership, making decisions and helping develop a growing operation.

About You

You will be a practical, organised and proactive individual with experience in chemical, process or similar manufacturing operations. You will be comfortable taking responsibility for the overall operation while remaining hands-on and working alongside the production team when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise and manage day-to-day production activities.
  • Lead, support and motivate a small team of production operators.
  • Monitor production performance, raw-material usage, yields and stock levels.
  • Troubleshoot plant and process issues, implementing practical solutions and continuous improvements.
  • Maintain accurate production records, procedures and safe working practices.
  • Work closely with Technical, Sales Administration and other business functions to ensure effective operations.
  • Contribute to the development of the plant, its processes and operating systems as production grows.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure operational standards are consistently maintained.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Good experience in chemical, process or similar manufacturing environments.
  • A sound working knowledge of health and safety within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supervising or leading production personnel.
  • A hands-on, problem-solving approach to plant operations and process improvement.
  • Good numerical skills, with the ability to interpret production data and use basic spreadsheets.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • The confidence to work independently, use initiative and make sound operational decisions.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production, technical and commercial teams.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Formal qualifications in chemical engineering, manufacturing, engineering or health and safety would be advantageous. However, relevant practical industrial experience is equally important, and we welcome applications from candidates who have developed their expertise through hands-on experience.

Search is an equal opportunities recruiter and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified applicants, regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation or age.
