Job summary

AmcoGiffen in Barnsley is seeking an experienced Production Engineer to translate designs into efficient manufacturing plans for complex steelwork. You will link production, design, quality, procurement and project teams to ensure safe, cost-effective plans and on-time delivery.

The role requires strong fabrication knowledge, the ability to read drawings and BOMs, and hands-on collaboration with shop-floor teams to drive improvements in productivity and safety.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/degree) or equivalent experience.
• Experience in steel fabrication, structural steelwork or heavy engineering.
• Strong understanding of fabrication and welding processes.
• Ability to read engineering drawings, BOMs and specs.
• Experience producing route cards, work packs and production instructions.
• Familiarity with production planning, labour and material control.

Responsibilities

• Define production processes and set target times for operations.
• Review drawings, BOMs and contract requirements before release.
• Ensure readiness with jigs, fixtures, and tools.
• Prepare work packs, route cards, cutting lists and instructions.
• Support teams with fabrication queries and efficient flow.
• Monitor materials, labour, and production progress.
• Identify and address delays, rework and cost overruns.
• Maintain accurate records and participate in reviews.
• Drive continuous improvement and cost control.
• Promote health, safety and quality culture.
