Overall, Purpose of Job:
The Production Engineer is responsible for improving manufacturing processes, supporting production teams, reducing costs, improving quality, and ensuring efficient and safe assembly of engineered products. The role acts as a key link between Engineering, Purchasing, Stores, and Production to ensure products are manufactured efficiently and delivered on time.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Production Support
- Provide day-to-day engineering support to manufacturing and assembly teams.
- Resolve production issues and remove barriers to efficient workflow.
- Investigate root causes of production and quality problems and implement corrective actions.
- Support the introduction of new products into manufacturing.
- Process Improvement
- Analyse production processes and identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
- Develop and implement lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Drive continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing waste and increasing efficiency.
- Lead operational improvement projects from concept through implementation.
- Monitor project progress and report outcomes.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, and Production teams to achieve project objectives.
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Develop assembly methods and manufacturing processes.
- Design and implement jigs, fixtures, and tooling to improve production efficiency.
- Establish standard labour times and manufacturing routings.
- Support capacity planning and production scheduling activities.
- Quality & Compliance
- Work with Quality teams to improve right-first-time performance.
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with company and customer requirements.
- Participate in internal audits and continuous improvement activities.
- Support corrective and preventive action investigations.
- Health, Safety & Housekeeping
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Ensure all manufacturing methods and improvements comply with Health & Safety regulations.
- Participate in risk assessments and safe working practices.
Skills & Experience
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial or Production Engineering.
- Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience of process improvement techniques.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central).
- CAD knowledge.
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
- Experience of low-volume, high-mix manufacturing.
