Job summary

Murata Power Solutions is seeking a Production Engineer to improve manufacturing processes across two UK sites. You will develop process controls, update documentation, and support coating, soldering, and assembly operations.

With a background in engineering and experience in Lean tools (5S, RCA), you will drive continuous improvement, work with design, quality and production teams, and help ensure ISO/quality standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Must have engineering background with relevant technical knowledge.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and documentation.
  • Familiarity with quality standards (ISO9001, IPC, J-STD, IATF, UL) and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimise and maintain manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Create detailed process documentation (work instructions, PFMEA, control plans).
  • Foster continuous improvement using 5S, RCA and lean tools.
  • Develop and maintain programming for coating and solder machines.
  • Complete production fixture design and qualification (in-house or outsourced).
  • Support NPI handover and manufacturability with cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor KPIs and ensure changes are properly documented and communicated.

Position Summary
  • Support and improve manufacturing processes within fast paced electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Develop production process & process controls for a variety of projects across two independent production sites in the UK.
  • Provide first line technical support for Production department including Surface Mount, Through hole, Mechanical assembly and Coating.
  • Create / review and update production documentation in line with production processes and quality standards.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimise and maintain manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and ensure product quality.
  • Create detailed process documentation for new & legacy products such as Assembly Instructions, Workmanship Standards, Work Instructions, PFMEA’s, Control Plans and Workflows.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and operational excellence across the production environment.
  • Develop and maintain programming for coating and solder machines, ensuring optimal machine performance and product quality.
  • To complete production fixture design, build & qualification. Either outsourced or using the in-house 3D printing machines.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing tools such as 5S and root cause analysis (RCA) to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate existing production lines and propose enhancements in layout, tooling, and automation to improve throughput and ergonomics.
  • Work with design, quality, and production teams during a New Product Introduction (NPI) to ensure smooth process setup, handover and manufacturability.
Job Duties/Responsibilities Cont.
  • Identify and analyse manufacturing issues working with supporting functions to obtain robust resolution.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve process-related issues that impact yield, quality, or efficiency.
  • Monitor and develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for processes and use data to support decision-making and improvement projects.
  • Ensure that all process changes are properly documented, validated, and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support production training requirements utilising training plans and skills matrices
  • To use/understand internal Systems/Software such as PLM (Aras), ERP (Avante), MES (FactoryLogix), MMS (MaintainX).
  • General project management and regular project updates to Management team.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards (e.g. ISO 9001, IPC, J-STD, IATF, UL).
  • To learn, maintain & support the following Bordon based Automation & Equipment/Machinery
  • PCB de-panelling machines
  • Selective / Wave soldering machines and profilers
  • PCB Cleaning Equipment
  • Component Crop and Form Tools
  • 3D Printers / Routers
  • Solder Paste, Pick and Place and Reflow ovens.
  • Automated Inspection equipment
  • Conformal Coating Equipment
  • Adhesive and thermal compound injection equipment
  • Stencil Maintenance and Stencil Washers
  • Automated measurement equipment
  • Carry out any other duties that might reasonably be expected of a Production Engineer
Experience Required

  • Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Experience of creating and monitoring processes and procedures
  • 3 plus years’ experience working in a Manufacturing Engineering environment

Hours
38 hours per week. 8:30 am - 5:30pm Monday to Thursday with half hour lunch break and 8:30am - 12:30pm Friday.
