Job summary

Chess Dynamics, Horsham, UK, is seeking a Production Engineer with an electrical/test bias to support operations, designing and producing test equipment for in-process sub-assembly testing. You will also back the Engineering design phase and provide technical support to improve processes and resolve issues.

The role emphasizes designing test equipment, implementing DFM/DFT principles, and driving continuous improvement across production, with a hybrid working arrangement and a 37.5-hour week,

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in a test/engineering environment.
  • Degree or HND in a relevant field.
  • Strong ability to read complex electrical drawings and PCB schematics.
  • Experience with LabVIEW, PLC programming and CAD software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; mentoring experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interface between Engineering and Production teams for in-process testing to improve build quality and reduce rework time.
  • Provide Electrical and test support to resolve production problems and minimise delays.
  • Support Design Engineering with DFM, DFA and DFT principles from early development stages.
  • Design and development of test equipment, assisting in procurement of equipment, jigs and fixtures.
  • Develop test procedures and coordinate production engineering processes to ensure high quality products meet customer requirements.
  • Assist Engineering with implementation of CRs and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Travel to assist customers with technical and production problems and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and Quality Manual; maintain a clean and orderly workspace.

Role Purpose

We are looking for an enthusiastic Production Engineer with an electrical/test bias to join our team. In this position they will support operations, designing and producing test equipment for in process sub-assembly testing. Also providing support to Engineering during the design phase of our products and providing technical support to the Operations department to improve processes and resolve technical issues.

In this position they will support operations, designing and producing test equipment for in process sub-assembly testing. Key Responsibilities
  • Interface between Engineering and the Production teams from an electrical/test perspective helping determine in process testing required during production to improve build quality and reduce rework time.
  • Provide Electrical and test support to effectively deal with engineering/production problems, ensuring production delays are kept to a minimum.
  • Support Design Engineering throughout the product development lifecycle by ensuring Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) principles are applied from the earliest stages of product development.
  • Design and development of test equipment, assisting in the procurement of equipment, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Develop test procedures and plan and coordinate production engineering processes to ensure high quality products are produced and Customer requirements are met.
  • Provide support to Engineering with implementation of CR’s.
  • Identify, develop and implement process improvements/best practices to improve production capacity, quality and reliability and supporting Continuous Improvement activities. Implementing cost reduction initiatives to provide year on year cost savings.
  • Assisting the quality department with inspection and investigation activities.
  • Aid in budget preparation and monitor expenses.
  • Perform engineering analysis to reduce test equipment and production assembly equipment downtime and outages.
  • Fault-find electromechanical equipment, investigating problems, analyse root causes and derive resolutions.
  • Stay current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes.
  • Travel when required to assist customers with technical and production problems – resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with production staff training providing knowledge transfer within the workplace.
  • Adhere to the company's procedures, policies and goals, always upholding the good reputation of the company.
  • Ensure at all times that health and safety regulations and guidelines are followed whilst working in a conscientious and safe manner with due consideration of other personnel.
  • Ensure that all procedures are followed as specified in the Quality Manual.
  • Assist in maintaining the office and workshop in a clean and orderly state and ensure good project housekeeping.
  • Demonstrates the ability to reflect on and improve personal performance.
Skills & Experience Essential
  • At least 5 years’ Relevant experience in a test/engineering environment and/or qualification such as a degree or HND
  • Excellent knowledge of testing electrical and electromechanical equipment
  • Excellent ability at reading complex technical drawings both wiring and PCB Schematics
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Good communication skills – verbal and written to a wide range of target audiences. Desirable
  • Experience in staff supervision or mentoring
  • Knowledge of Labview software
  • Knowledge of PLC Programming
  • Experience using CAD Software
  • Good knowledge of digital camera and video protocols
