Job summary

BOC UK & Ireland in Uttoxeter is seeking a Production Chemist to prepare gravimetrically calibrated gases and reference materials under ISO 6142 and 17034. You will manufacture oxygen-containing mixtures and prepare cylinders for filling.

You will liaise with the Production Manager on stock control, maintain records, and support workflow management. The role requires clear communication, basic science education, and IT literacy with Word, Excel and database software.

Qualifications

• A-level minimum in a science discipline.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Sound organisational ability to work independently or in a team.
• IT literate with ability to use bespoke software, Word, Excel and database tools.

Responsibilities

• Produce gravimetrically prepared calibration gases and reference materials per ISO 6142 and ISO 17034.
• Manufacture gas mixtures containing oxygen and flammables according to SOPs.
• Prepare cylinders for filling, including painting, valve insertion, cylinder treatment and evacuation.
• Liaise with Production Manager on ordering and stock control of gas cylinders and related gases.
• Maintain and update records/databases to support workflow management.

What You Will Enjoy Doing

• Production of gravimetrically prepared calibration gases/reference materials according to ISO 6142 and following ISO 17034 accredited processes within the quality system
• Manufacture of mixtures containing oxygen and flammables according to standard operating procedures
• Preparation of cylinders ready for filling including painting, valve insertion, cylinder treatment and evacuation
• Liaising with the Production Manager in the ordering and stock control of gas cylinders and pure source gases in addition to general support gases
• Maintain and update relevant records and databases to support workflow management

What Makes You Great

• You should possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required for dealing on a regular one-to-one basis with members of your team and other stakeholders
• A- level minimum in a science discipline
• You will have sound organisational ability with the capacity to work individually or within the team
• You will be IT literate and have the adaptability to use bespoke software systems, Microsoft Word and Excel and database software
