Volter is seeking a Product Manager to own how we build product across external customer/partner platforms and the internal tooling that powers pricing, ops and commercial teams.
You’ll work cross-functionally with founders, commercial, ops and engineering, and act as a manager of the tech team: bringing clarity and focus, and getting the most out of our engineers. You’ll bring simplicity to complex problems and deeply understand user problems before writing a line of spec.
Volter is a top-tier VC-backed B2B energy tech platform building the products that make clean, renewable power simple for businesses everywhere. The energy transition is a huge and vital opportunity, but it\'s currently too difficult for commercial & industrial companies to achieve. Historically, the energy industry has been too opaque, complex and lacking in trust. We\'re fixing that. We aim to be the "Octopus Energy for industry": a modern tech platform providing new renewable energy products with radical transparency, accelerating deployment of renewables and helping customers cut costs and carbon without complexity.
We\'re excited to use technology to help our customers deploy & utilise more renewable energy and fast-forward the energy transition - and we need your help!
We\'re hiring a Product Manager to own how Volter builds product - across both external products for our customers and partners and the internal tooling that powers our pricing, ops and commercial teams. Both matter equally here: the internal platform is how we scale without scaling headcount, and you should be excited by both.
You\'re probably mid/senior-level, but highly skilled and independent: you can run discovery, write the spec, prioritise ruthlessly and ship - without needing a product org around you. You\'ll work cross-functionally with founders, commercial, ops and engineering, and act as a manager of the tech team: bringing clarity and focus, and getting the most out of our engineers.
Our domain is complex - energy data, pricing, settlement, billing. Your superpower is bringing simplicity to complex problems and deeply understanding the user problem before writing a line of spec.
Discovery & user understanding
Spend real time with users - brokers, customers, generators and our own pricing/ops/commercial teams - and turn what you learn into sharp problem statements
Deeply understand workflows before proposing solutions; test, validate & move quickly
Product delivery (external & internal)
Own the roadmap across external product (customer/partner-facing platform) and internal tooling (pricing, ops, billing automation)
Write crisp specs and narratives that make complex things simple
Prioritise ruthlessly against commercial impact - revenue, win rates, hours saved - and say no clearly
Ship fast, measure outcomes, iterate
Leading through tech
Manage the engineering team: context, clarity, and unblocking - getting the most out of a small, senior team
Prototype and explore with AI tools yourself - you don't wait for an engineer to test an idea
Keep quality and standards high: what we ship should feel simple and considered, even when the domain isn't
Cross-functional glue
Work daily with founders, commercial, pricing and ops to keep product tied to what actually moves the business
Communicate roadmap, trade-offs and progress so everyone knows what\'s coming and why
Solid product management experience in B2B, ideally in similar spaces (energy, fintech, marketplaces, data-heavy or regulated industries)
Experience building both internal tooling and external products
A track record of outcomes, not features: you can point to measurable commercial impact from things you shipped
Strong technical fluency: you understand data models, APIs and system constraints, and can earn engineers\' respect - AI-native ways of working strongly preferred
Evidence of a real discovery habit: user insights that changed what you built
Excellent writing - your specs and problem statements do the simplifying
Data-capable: comfortable pulling and analysing data yourself (SQL or equivalent)
Comfort operating independently, without a product org, design system or research team around you
Desirable
Energy industry knowledge (tenders, pricing, metering, settlement, billing)
Zero-to-one experience at an early-stage startup
Experience shipping AI-powered product features or automation
Ambitious and independent: you want ownership of a whole product surface, not a slice of a backlog
Deeply curious - about users, the energy market, and how things work under the hood
A simplifier: you bring calm and clarity to messy, complex domains
Hungry for responsibility and happy to work hard for it - you don't need encouragement to go harder or faster
Impatient in the best way: you want to ship more, faster, and you scale yourself through technology and AI
Bought into our mission - you want to change the world with us
You have a strong bias toward action and having an impact quickly. You want to get sh\'t done
You are a self-starter and autonomous in your way of working, but ultimately believe a team can get further together than any individual
You communicate clearly and keep things as simple as possible
A dynamic and fast-changing environment with incredible responsibility and autonomy
The chance to shape Volter\'s product and product culture from the very beginning
Working directly with and learning from experienced startup founders who\'ve invested in and scaled businesses up to several billion dollars in valuation
Working on market-leading and genuinely impactful products that help solve the climate crisis
A kick-ass team of colleagues
We value in-person time at our office in London, but offer hybrid/flexible working
Competitive compensation based on candidate profile with generous employee equity
