Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking an Associate Governance and Assurance Lead to join our Commercial and Procurement Services (CPS). You will strengthen procurement governance, assess commercial risks and ensure decisions are supported by robust governance arrangements.

You'll work with procurement, finance and operational stakeholders to improve controls, embedding continuous improvement through assurance findings. A Level 5 CIPS Diploma is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial procurement, governance and assurance within end-to-end procurement.
• Understanding of procurement legislation and governance frameworks for tendering and awards.
• Ability to assess contractual obligations and identify commercial risks.
• Confident, print-ready advice to budget holders and procurement colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and improve procurement governance frameworks, processes and controls.
• Review procurement business cases, sourcing strategies and contract award reports for compliance and value for money.
• Provide guidance on procurement legislation, governance requirements and assurance processes.
• Identify risks, propose appropriate controls and escalate significant concerns when needed.
• Coordinate procurement assurance activities and governance reporting with proper approvals.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Finance and stakeholders to inform commercial decisions and improve outcomes.
