Job description

If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.

We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.

We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our Global Procurement Team in the role of Procurement Category Manager.

This is an opportunity to shape global procurement strategy for Consultancy Services and Non-Permanent Workforce within a major international bank. You’ll lead complex, high-value sourcing and negotiations, engage with C-suite stakeholders, manage global suppliers and deliver measurable savings, risk reduction and innovation. The role combines strategic influence with hands‑on delivery, ideal for an experienced category manager who wants broad enterprise exposure and the opportunity to make a visible impact across a global organisation.

As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.

In this role you will:

  • Lead global category strategy and planning for Consultancy and Non-Permanent Workforce within the assigned business area or function
  • Create, implement and continually review category plans aligned with business priorities
  • Deliver measurable savings, demand management, lifecycle value, risk reduction and innovation
  • Lead global strategic tenders and complex commercial negotiations with consultancy and resourcing suppliers
  • Manage high-value procurement transactions across multiple countries, business areas and spend categories
  • Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, including C-suite and executive-level decision-makers, and provide constructive challenge
  • Manage supplier performance, risks, relationships and post-contractual activities, including contract management and continuous improvement
  • Manage and develop an Assistant Category Manager, while maintaining accountability for delivery and ensuring compliance with procurement policies, controls and governance

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Significant experience in global category management, strategic sourcing or commercial procurement, ideally covering Consultancy Services, Professional Services, contingent labour or resourcing
  • Strong experience managing consultancy suppliers and complex, high-value consultancy engagements
  • A proven track record of leading large-value negotiations, tenders, commercial deals and sourcing strategies across multiple markets
  • Experience working effectively in complex, geographically dispersed and multi-layered organisations; banking or financial-services experience is desirable
  • Strong senior stakeholder-management, influencing and presentation skills, with confidence communicating with C-suite and executive audiences
  • Advanced data-analysis and commercial-modelling skills, with the ability to use market intelligence and procurement data to shape decisions
  • Experience in contract management, supplier relationship management, supplier performance and risk management, including post-contractual activity
  • A hands-on leadership approach, including experience managing or mentoring colleagues, working at pace, using Coupa or a comparable procurement system, and collaborating with Procurement, Risk, Legal, Finance and other control functions
