A quick look at the role.

The Process Supervisor will efficiently organise and supervise the operation of an anaerobic digestion plant, which operates 24/7 (4 days on/off, alternating 12-hour day and night shifts from 7:00 to 7:00). The role involves ensuring health & safety and environmental compliance, whilst demonstrating continuous improvement in productivity, plant availability, and the management of sub-products in accordance with site licences.

Your core responsibilities:
  1. Monitoring and controlling all resources within the AD plant, including personnel and equipment, stock control, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping to maximise operational productivity, plant availability, and performance.
  2. Ensuring productivity and availability meet or exceed defined standards for biogas/electricity production and the quality of by-products such as inerts, digestate, and effluents, while driving best practices and continuous improvement in cost control and operations.
  3. Managing material flows into and out of the process to minimise downtime.
  4. Maintaining accurate records of plant operations, settings, stoppages, and causes of unplanned downtime.
  5. Supporting engineering in developing a preventative maintenance, inspection, and cleaning programme to reduce downtime and record recurrent faults.
  6. Reviewing maintenance activities, controlling costs, and monitoring health & safety and KPIs, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  7. Demonstrating strong man-management skills and maintaining focus in a demanding environment.
Our essential requirements:
  • Experience as a Process Supervisor or similar role, preferably in green waste, water treatment, or related plants.
  • Experience in people management and health & safety within a unionised, multi-shift environment.
  • Understanding of the waste industry and relevant legislation.
  • A proven track record of meeting service delivery KPIs.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and teamwork skills.
And here’s why you’ll love it at Biffa:
