Job summary

Thames Water is recruiting a Process Scientist to provide expert technical support to operational teams, maintain regulatory compliance, and help meet internal targets. The role is based on a hybrid model at Farmoor (OX2 9NS) or Latton (GL7 5QF) with 36 hours per week.

The successful candidate will travel to other sites and hold a UK driving licence. Key duties include advising production teams, investigating infringements, supporting Capex schemes, and delivering regular water quality reports

Qualifications

• HNC or Degree (or equivalent) in a Scientific or Engineering discipline.
• Problem Solving is a crucial part of this role.
• Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential for liaising with internal stakeholders.
• Ability to work logically and analytically with a professional approach.
• Travel to other sites is required; full UK driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Advise a specific production team within the Operations sector of the business.
• Investigate infringements, report findings, and share learnings with Operations teams.
• Support Capex schemes/Projects as required.
• Develop relationships with Operations, Engineering and other internal customers.
• Coordinate with other water quality teams (catchment, groundwater, regulatory response).
• Identify developments to improve asset performance and suggest initiatives.
• Provide regular water quality reports and data to support decision making.

Working hours: 36 hours per week

Competitive salary up to £40,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.

Access to a company van while undertaking field work.

What you’ll be doing as the Process Scientist

• Working in the Operations sector of the business (clean water production team) acting as an advisor to a specific production team.
• Investigate and report on infringements, and feedback on remedial actions and share learnings with the Operations Teams.
• Provide support to Capex schemes/Projects as required.
• Develop professional working relationships with Operations, Engineering, and other internal customers.
• Close liaison with other water quality monitoring teams. (such as catchment, groundwater, regulatory response etc).
• Identify developments/optimisations that may improve asset performance or the business and suggest initiatives to the team and/or line manager.
• Providing regular water quality reports and data to operational teams to support decision‑making and project schemes.

What you should bring to the role:

Essential

• HNC or Degree (or equivalent) in a Scientific or Engineering discipline.
• Problem Solving is a crucial part of this role and any previous experience in this area would be highly beneficial.
• Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills are also key to this role as you will be liaising with internal stakeholders within Thames Water daily.
• The ability to work logically and analytically and be able to maintain a positive and professional approach is also essential.
• Travel to other sites is required as a major part of this role thus a full UK driving licence is essential.

Desirable

• Ideally have experience in water treatment processes, supply or regulation.
