Job description

My client is a leading Resin and Polymers manufacturer based in Wigan that supplies products to a range of industries globally. They are looking to employ an experienced Safety Process Engineer to bolster their established laboratory team. The ideal candidate will have a background in Chemical Engineering, COMAH site experience, and knowledge of various Health, Safety, and Environmental legislations. The candidate should be based within a commutable distance of Wigan.

Process Safety Engineer Position Overview

1. Collaborate with process chemicals and control engineers to ensure the production plant operates efficiently and maximizes output.
2. Design plant and equipment configurations that are adaptable to different products and process technologies, considering environmental and economic factors.
3. Design, install, and commission new production machinery, including monitoring development and troubleshooting.
4. Identify and address safety issues related to operators, the environment, processes, and products at all project stages.
5. Organize and chair hazard studies such as HAZOPs, SIL/LOPA, and HAZIDs.
6. Coordinate the preparation of major hazard risk assessments.
7. Provide functional safety expertise to the engineering department.
8. Define safety bases related to chemicals and operations, including fire and explosion prevention.

Position Requirements

1. Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical field.
2. At least 5 years of relevant chemical industry experience.
3. Effective problem-solving skills, with experience leading cross-functional problem-solving teams.
4. Proficiency in process safety and loss prevention techniques such as HAZOP and PHA.
5. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
6. Knowledge of H&S and Environmental legislation, including COMAH, DSEAR, and ATEX.
7. Understanding of manufacturing improvement strategies.
8. Local to Wigan.

Remuneration and Benefits

1. Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
2. 33 days holiday including bank holidays.
3. Pension scheme.
