Location: Yorkshire region, with regular regional travel, 1-2 days in the office/site per week

Work type: Permanent, 37 hours/week, Monday-Friday

We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Safety Engineer to join the Asset Delivery team at Yorkshire Water, helping us provide the best service to our customers.

We ensure that over 5.4 million people in Yorkshire, along with visitors, have access to clean, safe drinking water and proper wastewater removal. We also look after communities, protect the environment, and plan for sustainable water management, 24/7, 365 days a year.

With new legislation, significant investments, and evolving customer expectations, this is an exciting time in the water industry. The Asset Delivery team plays a key role in meeting these challenges.

As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Process Safety, you will address engineering challenges, provide technical advice, support capital projects, and investigate process incidents. You will collaborate with various teams to ensure compliance and safety standards are maintained.

Where You Fit In

• Provide process safety support to maintain operations and suggest improvements.
• Support asset planning, develop engineering strategies, policies, and standards.
• Assist in the delivery of projects, focusing on risk management and compliance.
• Lead or support investigations into incidents and asset performance issues.
• Work with suppliers on technology deployment and obsolescence management.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers and technicians.

What Skills & Qualifications You Will Need

• Engineering qualification at minimum HNC level or equivalent (preferably HND or degree).
• Experience in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Ability to develop engineering solutions and work with work packages/specifications.
• Knowledge of project design, management, and risk assessment.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Valid driving license with no more than 6 points.

You Will Also Benefit From Having

• Experience with risk assessments like HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA.
• Knowledge of functional safety management (IEC 61511) and SIL.
• Understanding of regulatory compliance (e.g., COMAH, DSEAR, COSHH).
• Experience in water/wastewater treatment or hazardous chemical processes.
• Familiarity with Change Management systems.
• Proficiency with SAP or similar IT systems.
• Asset management experience.
• Attention to detail.
• Membership or working towards membership of a recognized engineering institution, Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
