A leading company in the health and safety sector is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to enhance process safety management systems, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and drive improvement initiatives across the UK. This remote position requires a proven track record in process safety within chemical or petrochemical industries and effective communication with regulatory bodies.
Position Title: Process Safety Engineer
Location: Remote – UK
Role Purpose:
Join the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) team and lead the continuous improvement of process safety performance across the UK and Ireland. This role is pivotal in enhancing process safety management systems, ensuring compliance with legislation such as COMAH, and promoting a culture of operational safety excellence.
Key Accountabilities:
Drive improvements in process safety performance throughout the UK & Ireland region.
Establish and manage tools and processes to evaluate the effectiveness of process safety systems, including:
Incident reviews
Risk assessment action management
Management of safety-critical devices
Safety performance indicators
Audit and management review systems
Coordinate and deliver training and competency assessments based on regular learning needs analysis for staff involved in process safety.
Lead responses to ad-hoc process safety issues such as legislative changes, incidents, and safety improvement initiatives.
Oversee regional compliance with COMAH Regulations and relevant safety legislation.
Manage the creation and periodic review of COMAH safety reports, including authoring of SHEQ-related content.
Address and respond to feedback from COMAH Competent Authorities.
Represent the company in meetings with Regulatory Authorities where process safety expertise is required.
Qualifications:
NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent professional safety qualification.
Engineering degree preferred (e.g., Chemical, Mechanical) or related technical discipline.
Experience:
Proven experience in coordinating or contributing to COMAH safety reports.
Demonstrated engagement with regulatory bodies on process safety matters.
At least five years of relevant experience in chemical, petrochemical, or refinery environments.
Competencies:
Strong understanding of COMAH compliance requirements and process safety frameworks.
Strategic thinker with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple safety initiatives.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Proficiency in SHEQ systems and principles is a strong advantage.
