Job summary

OxTS RD at Bicester, United Kingdom, seeks a Process Engineering Team Leader to coordinate the Process Engineering team and provide front-line engineering support to Operations. You will manage production and test processes, calibration, and the introduction of new products into Production.

Lead a hands-on technical team, drive continuous improvement, maintain process roadmaps, and work closely with Quality, Engineering and Purchasing to resolve issues and optimize performance.

Process Engineering Team Leader

Reporting To: Core Operations Manager


Description
Reporting to the Core Operations Manager, the Process Engineering Team Leader is responsible for coordinating activities within the Process Engineering team and providing front-line hands-on’ engineering support to the Operations Department. In addition, the Process Engineering Team Leader has day-to-day responsibility for OXTS production and test processes, including calibration, and for supporting the introduction of new products into Production.


Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Coordination
  • Plan and track work through the Process Engineering Team, prioritising and assigning tasks to appropriate team members to ensure work is completed in a timely manner, while keeping internal stakeholders and tracking systems up to date.
  • Define, scope and coordinate resource for projects and improvement activity within the Process Engineering Team.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership across the Process Engineering Team, ensuring responsibilities are allocated appropriately to experience, capability and development needs.
  • Provide first-line people leadership through regular 1:1s, weekly team meetings, objective setting, development discussions, coaching, mentoring and day-to-day support.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and support to Operations, leading or supporting complex technical investigations, helping remove technical blockers and ensuring production, build and test issues are progressed to resolution.
  • Ensure clear ownership is in place across key production and test processes, including calibration, with responsibilities distributed appropriately across the Process Engineering Team.
  • Maintain the Process Engineering roadmap and provide regular visibility of project status, priorities, risks and actions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support the management of the Process Engineering budget, including project spend, equipment maintenance, external services and other planned costs, providing input to the Core Operations Manager as required.

Process Engineering
  • Develop and improve test equipment capability, capacity, efficiency, and reliability in line with business growth requirements, product quantities and mix.
  • Own first time pass yield (FTPY) for existing products and newly introduced products e.g. analyses and reports most common build/test failures, and works with Process Engineering, Engineering, Quality, Production, and Purchasing to devise and implement solutions to resolve issues.
  • Responsible for Turnbacks process whereby first-time build, test, and process failures are logged by Operations team members and allocated to appropriate team members for resolution.
  • Support technical investigations into quarantined components, working with Quality and Engineering to define and carry out appropriate testing and support agreed corrective actions, rework, supplier return or scrappage
  • Lead technical investigations into mechanical and electronic supplier quality issues involving Quality, Engineering, Production, and Purchasing departments as appropriate.
  • Maintenance of documentation and records such as work instructions, Bill of Materials, component drawings.
Production Support
  • Ensure proactive, preventative maintenance and calibration of Production test and assembly equipment is planned, resourced and delivered across the Process Engineering Team. Key equipment includes ambient and thermal calibration tables, soak chambers and final test jigs.
  • Manage component and process changes into Production; coordinating and working alongside Operations and Engineering stakeholders to validate and verify that changes achieve intended results before being integrated into or replacing current systems and processes.
  • Support regional OXTS operations with production and test equipment requirements, including technical fault support, calibration and maintenance requirements, and the specification or implementation of equipment where required.

New Product Introduction
  • Work closely with the NPI Engineer and relevant R&D, Production, Purchasing and Quality stakeholders to support the successful introduction of new products into Production.
  • Ensure appropriate Process Engineering resource is available to support NPI activity and help remove technical or operational blockers.
  • Provide technical oversight and support to ensure production processes, tooling, test capability, documentation and training are ready for product launch.
  • Support post-launch review and continuous improvement, ensuring production issues and lessons learned are fed back into future NPI activity.
  • Ensure appropriate build and test training is provided to Production as part of new product introduction.

Other
  • Work with other Team Leaders and Managers to align departmental priorities around quarterly and annual business objectives.
  • Define and calculate the monthly metrics for the Process Engineering Team.
  • Escalate any concerns or issues early to the Core Operations Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Previous experience of providing day to day leadership, coaching and mentoring across a technical team, supporting 1:1s, objective setting and development discussions, or a clear desire and capability to develop in these areas.
  • Organised, proactive and comfortable balancing hands-on technical delivery with people leadership, ownership and accountability.
  • Strong hands-on engineering experience within a manufacturing, production or test environment.
  • Experience investigating and resolving production, build and test issues.
  • Experience working with production processes, test equipment, tooling, calibration or similar technical assets.
  • Experience coordinating technical work, priorities and resources across a team.
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement, process development and new product introduction. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working cross functionally across Engineering, Production, Quality and Purchasing.
  • Experience with relevant engineering software and technical tools, such as CAD, basic scripting/programming (e.g. Python), ERP/MRP systems and other manufacturing/test technologies
