Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it's so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire's water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region's health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Water Production are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

Water Production is a close-knit dynamic environment, where water is continuously treated across the 50 Water Treatment Works to produce clean and safe drinking water to our valued customers. Water Treatment Works are large manufacturing facilities both with indoor and outside areas, using different chemicals and processes to change the water from reservoir or river water to drinking water, using lots of mechanical and electrical equipment. This is an operational role rather than a design or supervisory type Process Engineer role.

As our Process Engineer, you will:

  • Be based at a Water Treatment Works, taking care of and completing operational and plant maintenance activities to provide wholesome water to our customers. Tasks include, but are not limited to, cleaning and calibrating instrumentation, completing Water Quality laboratory checks, fault finding and diagnosis of treatment issues, integrating trend data, cleaning of process tanks, working with electrical and mechanical colleagues to resolve faults, accepting chemical deliveries, all to ensure compliance with water quality standards, environmental regulations, and health and safety, and process safety is achieved and managed across all the WTWs.
  • Lead chemical and process optimisation activities to achieve the water production plan and manage costs. Share best practices and ensure water production service outages are minimized. Manage asset failure, operational recovery, and support cost monitoring.
  • Review Risk Assessments and Methods Statements, issue control of work documentation, adhere to safe systems of work, identify hazards and implement mitigation, and update reporting systems to ensure H&S compliance in line with HSE, DWI, and Environment Agency requirements.
  • Support operational actions on site, incident management, and escalation procedures.
  • Embrace modernisation and asset management initiatives, supporting the new operational asset management system (ERP).
