Process Development Engineer

As our Process Development Engineer, you will own the journey from laboratory process to industrial manufacturing, designing, scaling and optimising the systems that bring our technology to market.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the scale-up of new and existing manufacturing processes from lab scale to production.
  • Plan and lead production trials, pilot runs and customer demonstrations, ensuring thorough documentation and timely delivery.
  • Build and manage relationships with manufacturing partners and suppliers.
  • Work closely with R&D as the bridge between materials science and manufacturing, translating novel materials into robust industrial products.
  • Identify and eliminate manufacturing bottlenecks to improve process yield, product quality and production throughput.
  • Able to perform on‑the‑spot adjustments and iterations to manufacturing processes to resolve issues immediately on the scaling‑up/production floor.
  • Capture, analyse and interpret data from manufacturing trials.
  • Upkeep of precise technical documentation and process tracking.
  • Assist with developing cost models, technoeconomic analyses, and life‑cycle analyses and integrate into material and process decisions.
  • Assist with risk assessments, including COSHH assessments, and with safe operating procedures for new processes or equipment.
  • Contribute to R&D project planning, setting and tracking key milestones and deliverables with risk management and costings.
  • Support team in managing lab equipment.
  • Support internal and third‑party testing to validate material and product performance, ensuring materials meet commercial requirements.
Candidate Profile
  • Relevant Background: You are an Engineer who enjoys building things from first principles and taking technologies from prototype to production. Your background may be in mechanical, manufacturing, chemical, process, product development, or industrial engineering. With 3+ years of relevant experience, you’ve worked on novel technologies either in academia or industry, and are confident in testing techniques such as tensile testing, rheology, mechanical characterisation, process validation, or other relevant methods.
  • Builder's Mindset: You combine critical and creative thinking with a strong bias for execution. You enjoy tackling ambiguous problems, running experiments and turning ideas into practical working solutions. You're comfortable moving between strategy, design, data analysis and hands‑on engineering to make progress where others see uncertainty.
  • Mission Aligned: The environmental impact of today's materials frustrates you. You're excited by the challenge of replacing unsustainable products with practical alternatives.
  • Thrives in a Startup Environment: You enjoy working in small, fast‑moving teams where priorities can evolve quickly. You communicate openly, seek feedback and focus on making progress.
  • Proactive and Accountable: You take ownership of your work and are comfortable operating with autonomy. You proactively identify challenges, propose solutions and follow through on delivery.
  • Effective Communicator: You communicate clearly and concisely, and share your work in an organised way that brings people together, whether they’re teammates, scientific advisors or non‑scientific external partners.

Salary band: Dependent on experience, and with the potential of share options.
