Randstad Delivery (GBS) is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer for the Process Control and Automation role at Port Talbot. You will diagnose faults, troubleshoot PLCs, and maintain AC/DC drives to keep hot mill production running efficiently.

The position requires hands-on expertise in process control, automation, and safety compliance, with a readiness to work day shifts in a heavy industry setting.

Qualifications

• Completed an approved Apprenticeship with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 Electrical.
• Proven experience in a relevant position with a willingness to undertake further development and training.
• Demonstrated good technical knowledge, along with specific knowledge and experience of fault finding and electrical systems/perimeter.
• Strong knowledge and working experience with PLC programs, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Good understanding of electrical control systems of DC & AC drives and motors.

Responsibilities

• Provide a complete range of Engineering activities to optimise production within the Primary Operations work area (Slab Yards and Re-heat furnaces).
• Act as the first point of contact to ensure the continued output of the Hot Mill.
• Diagnose and rectify faults quickly on plant end devices, instrumentation, control systems, and electrical control systems of DC & AC drives and motors.
• Issue permits on electrical systems once authorised and competent.
• Ensure strict compliance with all Health and Safety requirements and implement the company Health and Safety Policy and relevant statutory duties.
• React to engineering, quality, and safety issues as they arise in a timely and effective manner.
• Actively contribute to all activities aimed at improving plant performance.

Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer?

Do you hold strong knowledge of Process Control and Automation with Heavy Industry?

Are you based in or around Port Talbot?

In this hands‑on engineering role, you will act as the first line of defence for the Hot Mill-diagnosing electrical faults, troubleshooting PLC systems, maintaining AC/DC drives, and optimising continuous production.

Role: Process Control and Automation

Location: TATA Steel Port Talbot SA13 2NG, United Kingdom

Hours: Mon-Fri, Day shifts, 36.5 hours per week

Rate: £39,265 per annum + 10% Pension

Start: ASAP, but pending the successful result of a medical, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test

• Completed an approved Apprenticeship with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 Electrical (or equivalent).


• Proven experience in a relevant position with a willingness to undertake further development and training.


• Demonstrated good technical knowledge, along with specific knowledge and experience of fault finding and electrical systems/perimeter.


• Strong knowledge and working experience with PLC programs, instrumentation, and control systems.


• Good understanding of electrical control systems of DC & AC drives and motors.


• Flexibility to work overtime around breakdowns and planned maintenance periods.

Desirable requirements:

• Advanced knowledge and experience working on PLC programs to diagnose faults and work on plant end devices and instrumentation.


• Experience with HMI development and networks.


• Low voltage authorisation.


• Specific experience on DC and AC control and drives packages.


• Direct experience working with Furnace and gas systems.
