Job summary

Randstad Delivery is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer for Process Control and Automation at the Tata Steel Port Talbot site in the United Kingdom. The role focuses on diagnosing faults, troubleshooting PLC systems, and maintaining DC/AC drives to optimise heavy-industry production.

The position is based on-site in Port Talbot with 36.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday day shifts. Salary is £39,265 per annum plus a 10% pension, with ASAP start pending a medical assessment.

Qualifications

• Completed an approved Apprenticeship with a minimum of NVQ Level 3 Electrical (or equivalent).
• Proven experience in a relevant position with a willingness to undertake further development and training.
• Demonstrated good technical knowledge of fault finding and electrical systems/perimeter.
• Strong knowledge and working experience with PLC programs, instrumentation, and control systems.
• Good understanding of electrical control systems of DC & AC drives and motors.
• Flexibility to work overtime around breakdowns and planned maintenance periods.

Responsibilities

• Provide a complete range of Engineering activities to optimise production within the Primary Operations work area (Slab Yards and Re-heat furnaces).
• Act as the first point of contact to ensure the continued output of the Hot Mill.
• Diagnose and rectify faults quickly on plant end devices, instrumentation, control systems, and electrical control systems of DC & AC drives and motors.
• Issue permits on electrical systems once authorized and competent.
• Ensure strict compliance with all Health and Safety requirements and implement the company Health and Safety Policy and relevant statutory duties.
• React to engineering, quality, and safety issues as they arise in a timely and effective manner.
• Actively contribute to all activities aimed at improving plant performance.

Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer?

Do you hold strong knowledge of Process Control and Automation with Heavy Industry?

Are you based in or around Port Talbot?

In this hands-on engineering role, you will act as the first line of defense for the Hot Mill—diagnosing electrical faults, troubleshooting PLC systems, maintaining AC/DC drives, and optimising continuous production.

Role: Process Control and Automation

Location: TATA Steel Port Talbot SA13 2NG, United Kingdom

Hours: Mon-Fri, Day shifts, 36.5 hours per week

Rate: £39,265 per annum + 10% Pension

Start: ASAP, but pending the successful result of a medical, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test

Desirable requirements

• Advanced knowledge and experience working on PLC programs to diagnose faults and work on plant end devices and instrumentation.
• Experience with HMI development and networks.
• Low voltage authorization.
• Specific experience on DC and AC control and drives packages.
• Direct experience working with Furnace and gas systems.
