Job summary

Ministry of Justice in Wales is seeking a Probation Officer to assess and manage the risk posed by people on probation under supervision, including assessment, sentence implementation and producing reports for courts and partner agencies.

You will supervise individuals on probation subject to community orders and licenses, of varying risk, while supporting safeguarding and working with MAPPA/MARAC to reduce reoffending and protect victims and the public.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice and assessment, including written reports to courts and other agencies.
• Undertake the full range of offender management tasks with people on probation across varying risk levels.
• Use computer-based systems to manage records within agreed timescales.
• Coordinate referrals and relationships between offender management, courts, victim contact units and external agencies.
• Attend professional meetings and represent the PS in partnership forums such as MAPPA and MARAC.
• Collaborate with colleagues and supervise PSOs and staff as appropriate.
• Provide cover within teams and for other teams when required.
• Attend prison, home or other locations as required.
• Deliver and co-lead accredited programmes as appropriate.
• Carry out safeguarding duties in line with policy and legislation.
